Health care debate calls for sober consideration
(Editorial ~ 09/10/09)
It's been a long time since we've had a leader with the charisma and eloquence of President Obama, but there's a vast gulf between delivering a good speech and delivering on the promises he made Wednesday night. Consumers have little to argue with in most of the president's points, such as preventing insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, canceling or diluting coverage when people get very sick or ending lifetime caps on coverage...

Thoughtless drivers
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/10/09)
I have had two dogs, a Lab and a Saint Bernard, get hit on our county road in three days! We live miles from the closest house and most of the traffic on our road is from our farming neighbors. I have had dogs hit in the past, and people just don't seem to care about the dog or its owners after they've hit it...

Cruel coverage
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/10/09)
I must comment on your reporting of the accident on Sept. 3 that took the life of Amy Jo Stone. To write the statement "alcohol and drugs may have been used" without solid proof was totally irresponsible, uncalled for and very hurtful to those who were already experiencing indescribable pain. In any case, a statement such as this serves no purpose and should never be made...
