Banking water

Dear Editor, As paychecks come in, workers use a bank to put some money away for a rainy day. Well, we on the bottom with little money find that a rainy day in fact saves us money by banking the water for dry periods to come. My largest water barrel is an old horse water tank with many holes, but with a double layer of plastic, it now holds water and a cover protects it from sun and bugs...

Dear Editor, I was amused to see a complaint about the races at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds even before the first race. I have lived directly across the street since 1963 and have always enjoyed seeing the facilities being used and enjoyed by so many people from McCook AND other communities...

Good turnout for weekend of great events

Talk about an active community! Again showing their interest and involvement, the people of McCook and the surrounding region turned out in large numbers this past weekend to support four separate community functions. Within the span of 33 hours -- from noon Saturday to 9 o'clock Sunday night -- active citizens ignored the snowstorm to attend: the 2003 annual meeting of the High Plains Historical Society; the first Founders Banquet sponsored by the McCook Community Foundation; the Rally in the Heartland to show support for America's troops; and the Celebrity Celebration for Heart to raise money for the American Heart Association.. ...
