LUDELL -- Josephine Catherine Schmaderer, 80, died Thursday (April 3, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
She was born Dec. 9, 1922, near Herndon, to Aloys and Catherine (Baum) Schmaderer. She attended a country school in Nebraska and completed her freshman year at Saint Mary's in Herndon. She graduated from Atwood Community High School with the class of 1946. She began attending summer school and taking correspondence courses from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. She taught in a number of elementary schools in Rawlins and Thomas counties. After retiring from teaching, she returned to the family farm and spent the remainder of her life keeping house for her father and brother.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Altar Society both of Atwood.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine; father, Aloys; and sister, Helen Green.
Survivors include her sister, Delores and husband, Carl Mumm of Selden; brothers, Joe of Ludell, Al and wife, Marlene of Manhattan, Kan.; brother-in-law, John Green of Herndon; four nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Tully.
A parish vigil and Christian Mother's Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m., Sunday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation is Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Rawlins County Cancer Unit or to the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers Altar Society both of Atwood.
