Teens, pedestrians should take special care when traveling
(Editorial ~ 10/18/12)
School children of all ages are settling into the daily routine of gathering up their homework and getting to school, but Mother Nature is bound to break that routine any day by sending ice, snow and other challenging weather their way. Combined the age-old distractions of being a teenager with modern electronic distractions of smart phones and music players, and it's a miracle there aren't more accidents on a daily basis...

Already working
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/18/12)
They must get their news late in California judging by Thomas Kope of Baldwin Park, California's Oct. 5 letter. Not that it matters because he's a Californian, not a Nebraskan, but apparently Mr. Kope is unaware that the Affordable Care Act has already lowered prescription drug costs for seniors, made sure pre-existing conditions aren't a barrier for someone to get quality health care, and allowed parents to keep their children on their insurance plans until age 26; very helpful in our still recovering economy.. ...

Already warming
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/18/12)
While it makes a good opening for an article on the findings of climate scientists, "things are about to start heating up" is a pretty misleading sentence (Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, "Panel: Climate changes threaten Nebraska's water resources"). The mercury's been rising for quite a while now, as witness this single statistic: July 2012 was the 329th consecutive month to exceed the global average temperature for the twentieth century. ...

Making a messy fool of myself

You think I could get through just one week without looking like a fool. Nope, doesn't seem to be happening.
