Letter to the Editor

Already working

Thursday, October 18, 2012

Dear Editor,

They must get their news late in California judging by Thomas Kope of Baldwin Park, California's Oct. 5 letter.

Not that it matters because he's a Californian, not a Nebraskan, but apparently Mr. Kope is unaware that the Affordable Care Act has already lowered prescription drug costs for seniors, made sure pre-existing conditions aren't a barrier for someone to get quality health care, and allowed parents to keep their children on their insurance plans until age 26; very helpful in our still recovering economy.

And, just this past summer we saw rebates issued to thousands of Nebraskans in order to ensure the premiums someone pays gets them more value for their health-care dollar; instead of it going towards excessive insurance company profits when insurance companies collect premiums and then deny coverage.

Those who study history know that Social Security was the subject of ridicule and scorn when it was passed and critics wanted it repealed.

No one says that today.

Sincerely,

Ben Nelson

U.S. Senator
