The Twin Valley Weed Management Area committee shifted into high gear this fall and has approved several projects to clean out the Republican River channel. VP candidates play fast and loose with facts
(Editorial ~ 10/03/08)
We doubt there were "high fives" in either of the campaign headquarters following Thursday night's vice presidential debate, but no heads should be hanging, either. In the end, it's doubtful many of Gov. Sarah Palin's fans were dissuaded from voting for her ticket, and Sen. Joe Biden kept his notoriously untamed tongue under control enough to avoid creating a new controversy...

R.E.M. had it right
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/03/08)
I hope Congress doesn't bail us out of this mess. I hope we stew. I'd like to see what would happen. I'd like to be reduced to a diet of TV dinners, watermelon and hose water. I'd like to drive the same car, wear the same clothes, live in the same house and sit on the same furniture, while watching the same television set for the next 15 years...

Federal law allows pilot programs to last up to three years...

It's safe to say that any of the broadcast networks would like to have the kind of success ABC had at the beginning of this century with "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" While we're some years past its peak, you can't forget that the show was a cultural phenomenon and ratings juggernaut until it burned out -- thanks to overexposure -- and dragged a short-sighted network to the basement as quick as it carried it to the penthouse. ...

Every pew at St. Alban's Episcopal Church was filled Wednesday evening, Sept. 10., not only to officially welcome the new rector with a renewal of ministry service, but also because history was in the making. The Rev. Dr. Mary Hendricks, the first woman priest in St. Alban's 125 year history, was installed into her first pastorate, having earned her degree at Yale Divinity School and her Anglican diploma at Berkeley Divinity School of Yale...
