Truck driver killed near Palisade

Friday, October 3, 2008
PALISADE -- A Palisade man was killed when his semi truck left the road and landed upside down in a creek bottom about 4:50 p.m. Friday afternoon.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the 2000 Peterbilt, driven by Dickie Wickizer, 68, was traveling west bound on Nebraska Highway 6 at milepost 58 on the east edge of Palisade when it crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound ditch. It continued westbound through the east ditch, striking a bridge guard rail.

After striking the guard rail, the truck, loaded with shingles, rolled and entered the creek bottom, landing on its cab facing west. The driver was killed in the crash.

State Patrol troopers expressed thanks to the Hitchcock County Sheriff's Department, Palisade Fire and Rescue, Hayes Center Fire and Rescue and the Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department for their help at the scene.

I'm so sad to hear about Dickie, he was is school with us at Stratton. He was always a lot of fun and we had a lot of good times together. After I left Stratton and went into the Navy I lost track of him. My thoughts and prayers are extended to all of his family, brother Dale and sister Barbara.

May the family and friends feel the presence of God near them during this time of sorrow. Also the family of the Hagan Trucking Company.
