Council to hear update on dogs

Vicious dogs and other animal concerns will be addressed at the regular McCook City Council meeting Monday night, 7:30 at City Council Chambers in Memorial Auditorium. The council will hear a presentation by Lorie Hoyt of the McCook Humane Society, along with McCook Police Chief Ike Brown and be asked to form a committee to update or review city laws on vicious dogs and those ticketed repeatedly for dogs at large...

Grants available for respite services The Nebraska Respite Network Southwest Service area announced the availability $20,000 in Respite Mini Grants. That total in grant allocations will be awarded to successful applicants with in the 18 counties which make up the Nebraska Respite Network Southwest Area. The 18 counties served are, Arthur, Chase, Dawson, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Gosper, Grant, Hayes, Hitchcock, Hooker, Lincoln, Logan, Keith, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow, and Thomas Counties...

We're only a month out from the general election and, once again, the electoral map looks very similar to 2004 and 2008. In terms of population, the country is fairly evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, although the Dems have made numerical gains since the last election that might be enough to elect the Democratic candidate this time around...

GERING -- The McCook Bison took advantage of Gering's early miscues, which included three fumbles in the host team's first four possessions, and steamrolled their way to a 62-7 thumping of the Bulldogs. Lightning flashed around Gering's football field as the minutes before the 8 p.m. Central time kickoff ticked away; perhaps it was a omen of things to come on the turf during the game...
