Who's to blame for Husker debacle? Take your pick
(Column ~ 10/12/04)
Ninety-three yards rushing. Seven turnovers. Three-man defensive rush. 70-10. That sums up the Nebraska-Texas Tech debacle. The dive into this hole started sometime in the past few years under Frank Solich, but the Huskers finally hit the floor, and mighty hard I might add, with Bill Callahan at the helm with an absolutely devastating 60 point loss...

Family, friends and patients are feeling a deep sense of loss today following the death of Dr. Emanuel Beyer. What difference?
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/12/04)
**Dear Editor, I am watching a third relative die slowly of cancer. It's no easier now than it was the first time. I see young men and women in harms way on the news every night, and that can't be easy for their families either. My problem is this: We all cheer the bush baby for sending troops to fight the cancer called terrorism but some have a fit when researchers want to use stem cells and human embryos to wage war on cancer and the other terminal illnesses that confront society. ...

Dump debates
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/12/04)
**Dear Editor, What's the big idea behind these debates? 1. Why create stress upon our president? 2. Why let unnecessary "straws" be laid upon him until perchance he "breaks" under them? 3. Why provide for gloating aspirants that for which they are watching and hoping?...

Ready to invade the Netherlands
(Column ~ 10/12/04)
I knew personal computers had a lot of potential when I saw my first one back in the '70s, but who would have guessed the things they would make possible. Just one example was illustrated by the chat I had with Don Schaaf the other day. Schaaf, who readers may recall as the author of the "Dondotcom" column that ran in this space during the early days of the Internet, told me he and a few buddies planned to invade the Netherlands...

Wrong solution
(Opinion ~ 10/12/04)
To enact a criminal statute requiring a signature for the local purchase of Sudafed is not much short of ludicrous. A Google of Sudafed yields over 68,000 hits in .33 seconds. Any given day you can easily buy over the world wide net all the Sudafed and generic Sudafed you want and have it delivered to your door. So do you want enough police to police every internet transaction in the U.S.? And every Fed Ex and UPS delivery?...
