ARAPAHOE -- Roy Charles Esslinger, 55, died Sunday (Oct. 10, 2004) at his home in Arapahoe.
He was born March 4, 1949, to Edwin and Renatta (Meister) Esslinger in Oxford. He grew up on a farm north of Arapahoe in Gosper County and attended Immanuel Parochial School. He then went to Arapahoe High School and graduated in 1967. He then attended Hastings Tech School.
He entered the Navy and was a mine sweeper during the Vietnam War.
On May 21, 1972, he married Georgia Land at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood. He farmed for the next ten years and drove a semi-truck for six years. In 1989, the couple moved to Arapahoe where he had his own lawn service.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe and the American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Esslinger of Arapahoe; son, William and wife, Misty Esslinger of Omaha; daughter, Amanda and husband, Donald Conn of Arapahoe; brother, Emil Esslinger of Lincoln; sister, Ruth Beck of Arapahoe; and five grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, 2:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Arapahoe with military rites given by the American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe.
