ARAPAHOE -- Leo B. Schievelbein, 84, died Monday (Oct. 11, 2004) at his home in Arapahoe.

He was born July 19, 1920, to Wilhelm and Emma (Sydow) Schievelbein in Gosper County. He attended school at the Immanuel Parochial School.

After school he served in the Army. After his service duty he returned to Gosper County to farm.

On June 3, 1945, he married Leona J. Haussler at St. Matthews Church of rural Arapahoe. The couple farmed for a number of years before moving to Arapahoe in 1966. He then worked for Eliason Grain Company and did construction work for IBS of Elwood and Stagemeyer Construction of Arapahoe. He also did general construction work on his own for a number of years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John Wendland, Arthur Rhienhart and Glen Schievelbein; and grandson, Alan Tyler.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Schievelbein of Arapahoe; five sons, Les Schievelbein of Norton, Kan., Gary and wife, Cathy Schievelbein of Arapahoe, Bill Schievelbein of Lincoln, Leon and wife, Crystal Schievelbein of Arapahoe and Robert Schievelbein of Goddard, Kan.; two daughters, Karen and husband, Larry Kohtz of York and Cathy Tyler of McCool Junction; sister, Irene Stagemeyer of Holbrook; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Interment will be in Arapahoe Cemetery with military rites given by the American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe.
