Talk about good timing! Yesterday when the Gazette's 2003 Beef Edition was being sent to press, the USDA's choice cutout values for boxed beef reached an all-time historic high. The price -- as of 11 a.m. Wednesday morning -- was $141.19 per hundredweight. That topped the previous high of $139.77, set the day before, and is more than four dollars higher per hundred pounds than the record before the latest spurt...

Curtis woman gets probation

CURTIS -- A Curtis woman was sentenced to 30 months probation and a $1,500 fine in Frontier County District Court May 9, for stealing $6,841.06 from the Curtis Easter Pageant fund. Daidrea Donelson of Curtis pleaded guilty on April 10, to theft by deception involving more than $1,500 as part of a plea bargain. Frontier County Special Attorney Eric Eisenhart agreed to recommend probation. As a condition of the plea bargain, Donelson was required to make full restitution...
