Feels like home
(Column ~ 03/14/03)
Dear Editor, I lived in McCook last year for only 4 months, but I miss it so much! Thank you for putting the Web cam link for McCook in your site! I was so happy when I found your Web page. Now I can keep up with what's going on there. The people of McCook quickly touched my heart! In a way, it feels like home, and I regret moving away very much!...

You're doing well, drivers; let's keep it up
(Column ~ 03/14/03)
In the midst of a construction project, it's easy to get bummed out. With jackhammers pounding, dust swirling and large trucks rolling, it's not unusual for the nerves of those nearby to start jangling. But -- amazingly -- that has not been the case in McCook as construction crews commence the $3.4 million rebuilding of the midtown portion of B Street...

At what price WEC?
(Column ~ 03/14/03)
I have nothing against the Work Ethic Camp, but to leave it in the budget and cut K-12 school aid that has already been cut 10 percent, seems to me (to be) taking away from the future to take care of the people who are already in the penal system. I have nothing against the Work Ethic Camp, but not at the expense of education. This is our future...

Find other funds
(Column ~ 03/14/03)
Dear Editor, In Thursday's paper, Senator Tom Baker is quoted as saying support for placing the Work Ethic Camp back in the budget is growing, but that cuts would be made elsewhere, most likely in state aid for K-12 schools. Is there no way for the Unicameral to find this funding other than taking away from our children's education?...

Reasons for 'no'
(Column ~ 03/14/03)
Dear Editor, I would like to point out a few reasons to vote "no" on the Twin Valley-Republican Valley school bond issue. In the beginning a survey was sent out to the patrons asking them which they would prefer - to merge with existing facilities or to merge and build a new facility. The results of this survey in both districts showed the majority would prefer to merge with existing facilities, but we are not allowed to vote on this...

(Local News ~ 03/14/03)
The Mid-Plains Community College Area is like a rocket on the launch pad with the boosters on -- it's just sitting there shaking, waiting to take off. With St. Patrick's Day landing on a Monday this year, one thing is destined to happen. Green beer will be flowing for at least four days, all in the name of an English missionary.
