Week Two's High School Football Stars
*Tyson Broekemeier-Aurora -- All-State quarterback rifled his first 8 passes for completions, then went on to nail 25 of 34 aerials for 317 yards and 5 touchdowns as Aurora kept their hex on Adams Central, 33-13. Austin Smith was on the receiving end of 8 passes for 126 yards and an 80 yard TD reception. Mathew Grosshans caught 9 of Broekemeier's throws for 112 yards, with TD catches of 3 and 28 yards. Adams Central's QB, Matt Overmiller wasn't bad himself connecting on 19 of 32 for 175 yards in a losing cause.
*Tiras "Boltin" Bolton-Omaha Westside -- Bolted 76 yards for a touchdown with 2.2 seconds left to lift his Warriors to a 21-14 upset of 2nd rated Creighton Prep. Westside was trying to run out the clock to take the game into OT, when Bolton decided it was time to end the game.
*Brock "The Tank" Sherman-Crete -- Decided to take things into his own hands and rush for 185 yards and score all 3 touchdowns in Crete's lackluster 21-0 win over Waverly. Sherman had all but 24 of the Cardinal's total yards. Crete attempted 3 passes, one fell incomplete, and two were picked off. The Cardinals also lost the handle on the football 6 times, losing two. They also committed 7 penalties for 65 yards. No, Chuck McGinnis was not happy, but was glad "the Tank" took over. Sherman now has 606 yards through 3 games.
*Taylor Kreifels-Lincoln Pius X -- The 5-10, 200 pound RB rushed for 137-23 carries as the Thunderbolts bolted to a huge halftime lead, then hung on for dear life to beat Omaha Skutt, 31-27. Kreifels now has 321 yards in 3 contests.
*Chris Bailey-Millard North -- The punishing fullback was turned loose for 193 yards on 32 attempts as the Mustangs beat a stubborn Omaha Central team 22-7. The Eagles have to be the best 0-3 team in the state.
*J.D. Peterson-Lincoln NE -- Another round of applause for the little guy that the masses say cannot compete in the Class A grid wars. The 5-8 145 lb. Peterson scored the winning TD in overtime and rushed for 111-11 tries as the Rockets beat North Star 22-21. Peterson's backfield bud, FB Dillon Gushard rambled for 107-23 as LNE improved to 3-0 in 2010.
*Antonio Lowe-Ralston -- Slickster sat out the 1st quarter, then exploded for 160 yards on only 15 carries including TD scampers of 80, 4 and 15 yards. The Rams punished Schuyler 50-15 and Lowe swelled his season running total to 419.
*Chase Wurdeman-Seward -- The 1000 yard runner sliced through the thick fog for 149 yards and 2 scores as the Bluejays took it to Northwest, 56-28. Seward quarterback Sam Brauer managed to see well enough to complete all 5 of his pass attempts for 209 yards....three went for touchdowns. Wurdeman now has 340 yds.
*Zach Maloley-Kearney -- The Kearney powerhouse fullback shredded Grand Island's defense to the tune of 174 yards on 17 totes. He also broke loose for a 73 yard scoring scamper and made made life miserable for the Islanders from his LB position as the 'Cats won their 10th straight over GI, 38-33.
*Jacob Jensen-Overton -- Achieved perfection in the passing department, completing all 10 of his tosses for 247 yards and 3 Tds in the Eagle's 50-15 swamp over Axtell. The rugged Olmstead brothers, Jacob and Zach both were on the receiving end of 6 of those pitches. Zach caught 4 for 109 yards and a TD, Jacob ran under 2 for 116 yards and two scores.
*Kaleen Anderson-Loomis -- Crafty 165 pound junior rushed for 121-21 carries and scored on dashes of 6, 10, 16, and 3 yards as the Wolves avenged last season's playoff loss to Pleasanton by beating the Bulldogs, 47-12. Anderson also delivered several bone jarring tackles in the contest, including one late in the game that sent a Bulldog receiver flying out of bounds.
*Jacob Morrill-Creighton -- FRESHMAN running back came up big in the big game against Bloomfield by gaining 128-20 tries in the Bulldogs 22-8 win. The Bee's 1,700 yard man, Wayne Bruegman was his usual self though rushing 146-30 for the game. He already has 327 in two games.
*Bryce Potter & Drew Rautenberg-Tilden Elkhorn Valley -- These fellas must like the 6-Man version of high school football. Potter ran for 202 yards and Rautenberg for 192 as the Falcons outscored Wheeler Central 37-30. Elkhorn Valley is now 2-0 for the young season.
*Ethan Wright-Beatrice -- With Husker recruit Daniel Davie sitting out the game with an injury, Wright took charge turned in TD runs of 1, 28, and 50 yards, plus a 48 yard punt return for good measure. The Orangeman trounced Nebraska City, 50-6.
*Seth Behrens-David City -- Rushed for 147 yards on 28 carries, but it wasn't enough as Milford trimmed the Scouts 13-7. Behrens has 311 for the year.
*Cody Stalp-West Point C.C. -- The Bluejay RB ran all over Clarkson with 262 yds. on 22 attempts. He scored on runs of 37, 62, 40, 42 and 10 yards and WPCC destroyed the Red Devils 78-32. Pat Kucera had 131-32 carries for Clarkson and TD sprints of 48 and 67 yards.
*Danny O'Boyle-Gering -- Bulldog quarterback decided to carry the ball a little against Chadron last Friday....and how. He rushed 24 times for 186 yards and hit pay dirt on runs of 5, 6, and 74 yards. Josh Swanson added 105-26 in the 23-14 win.
*Seth Hoffman-Shelby-David City Aquinas -- Last season at Shelby he became only the 4th Freshman to rush for a 1000 yards (1,147). Saturday afternoon, he stepped in at fullback for his new school and ran for 131 yards and unleashed two monster punts of 71 and 59 yards in the all-gold clad Monarch's 38-7 victory over Lincoln Christian.
