This project is a first for a football guy like myself although Ifve followed high school basketball closely for the past 50 years. Hoops ratings before the first of the year are a virtual crapshoot for any prep rater, especially for one who has no pre-season prospectus sheets from coaches. Letfs give it a whirl every week until sub districts and see how we fare...

Some may wonder why and how I select my All-State Football teams each year. Rarely are there comments, although some have surfaced this season around the state. A nice gentleman in this area pointed out that my Class A team looked "unbalanced" because I placed 4 running backs on offense and 6 linebackers on defense and he decided that this was very unbalanced....he was correct...

The 2011 Nebraska high school football finals and the season drew to a close Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln with a game for the ages. The Class a State Championship between Lincoln Southeast and Omaha Burke was one whale of a football game to behold and just to be on the sidelines to witness that baby sent shivers up your spine. Let me offer my thoughts on these 6 contests and what I observed...
Solid line blocking and the crisp running of junior tailback Jackie Davis brought an end to a story book season to a solid Grand Island football team in the Class A quarterfinals on a blustery Friday night. The Eagles rode the legs of the shifty, powerful Davis, who ran for 171 yards of 31 carries to defeat the Islanders 34-24 in a battle of two teams that possessed speed unmatched in the state's top class. ...
Class B: (*All Games Friday) Alliance (5-4) @ McCook (8-0) 6:30 Bison won the regular season match-up 31-20 on September 9th in Bulldog country. McCook received a blow when ace RB/LB Jake Schlager broke a leg last week in the Holdrege game. Schlager was the second leading tackler for the Bison and a key cog in their running attack. ...
Class A Playoff Field Millard North (4-5) @ Omaha Burke (9-0) 7:00 Oh man, what a unlucky 1st round draw for Burke. They say the Bulldogs have the best offensive line in Class A and Burke's 306 yards per game rushing average reflects that. On the other hand, Millard North only gives up 90 a contest on the ground. ...
High School Football Playoffs...a Crystal Ball look at classes A, B, and C-1 Some say fools never know when to hold their peace, so I decided to see how accurate my playoff prognostications hold up. One grand benefit of being retired is having the time to figure out these complex possibilities. Although I do not profess to be Rhodes scholar, I am wise enough not to take a stab at this with more than one week remaining in the regular season.....too many variables and hangers...
