The feats you see each and every week are the result of great preparation by high school, coaches and athletes all over this state and most of these players realize they only hit the stage a precious few times a season...

After battling to a 7-7 defensive stalemate for three quarters, Columbus Scotus unleashed fullback Jake Bos and scatback Brady Pelster on long scoring runs to knock the Pierce Bluejays from the ranks of the unbeaten. McCook shut out it's second straight opponent in 2 games and the Bison offense struck for 21 first quarter point to send the Grand Island Northwest Vikings back down to earth, 45-0. Northwest shocked Adams Central on opening night a week ago 34-7 and thought they had a great shot at giving Class B's 2nd rated McCook team a run for their money. ...

On a Thursday night opening game at Seacrest Field, Omaha Centrals defense came up big when it counted as the Eagles notched a 28-18 win over a well-prepared, young Lincoln North Star football team. 2014 Nebraska high school football's returning 1000 Yard Passers

Grand Island's Pierce Almond leads a group of 31 returning quarterbacks who threw for more than a 1000 yards a year ago in Nebraska prep football. The Islander standout was one of 5 Class A quarterbacks who passed for 2000+ yards in 2013. Almond connected for 19 touchdowns last season and led those 2000 yard gunslingers in completion percentage, hitting 65% of his tosses...

We're down to the last 4 thousand yard runners who will return for the upcoming 2014 football season. This will be the final hurrah for all four of these young men who have each played in at least one state football final at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Three of these young men have a legitimate shot at reaching the 5000 yard career rushing mark. The 4th is already there. Of course when you run for 3,008 yards in a single season, it shortens that path to 5000 by a ton...

If you added the yardage of all 5 young men we feature today, the staggering total would be 7,441 yards. These dudes racked up the yards in 2013 should be a real kick to watch this fall. Oh, and by the way, the 2014 high school football season officially began when the clock struck midnight last night.
