McCOOK, Nebraska -- A one-of-a-kind flag from the 2008 Masters Golf Tournament will be raffled off during the 2013 John Mullen Pro Am Golf Tournament in McCook June 7-9, at Heritage Hills Golf Course. The tone is usually negative when the subject of area lakes comes up, such as how water is being released to comply with the Republican River Compact and how Hugh Butler Lake had to be drained to repair Red Willow Dam. But there are still plenty of recreational opportunities at area lakes, and it would be a shame not to make plans to take advantage of them this summer...

Court questions

After reading the County Court Records in the paper, I am puzzled by the number of arrests that are "dismissed" or "not pursued." It appears that some individuals receive significant fines, while others receive a dismissed charge. Please note, I am not writing to criticize anyone. I am only seeking an answer or explanation. It may be that I simply don't have a clear understanding of court proceedings...

May madness

I don't know what it is about May, but it has to be one of the busiest months for moms. December still probably ranks as No. 1 overall busiest months of the year, but in my opinion, May is a very close 2nd. One nice thing is, the weather is always better to deal with in May versus December but honestly, sun or snow, there can't be much more we can fit in, in the month of May...
