2026 NEMFCA 8-Man Hall of Fame Inductee Salutes - Steve Colfack, Butte/Bertrand High School

This is our twelfth of fifteen 2026 Nebraska Eight Man Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductees. We proudly salute one of 8-Man football’s player and coaching LEGENDS, the venerable Steve Colfack-Butte/Bertrand H.S..
COACH STEVE COLFACK – BUTTE/BERTRAND H.S.
Very few have given more to Nebraska 8-Man Football than Steve Colfack. He devoted over 35 years of his life to our game, beginning his journey in the early 1980’s as a 1,000-yard rusher and All-State running back at Butte High School. In the 1990s, he returned to his alma mater to lead the Wildcats to the 1998 Class D-2 State Championship while concurrently going on the most historic 5-year run in school history. That span included 59 wins, 5 losses, 4 State Title Game appearances, and Steve being honored as the Class D-2 Coach of the Year. He later went on to finish his career at Bertrand High School as one of the most revered and respected coaches of the era. He also proudly served as the NEMFCA Vice-President for over a decade, where he worked to promote 8-Man players, coaches, and communities in our state (he also continued to serve as the association’s “Social Coordinator Emeritus” for the many years that followed). During Steve’s 32 years in coaching, his teams made the playoffs 15 times and he was honored as an All-Star assistant coach in 1999, the West Head Coach in 2000, and a member of the 2011 and 2012 Nebraska vs. Kansas All-Star Coaching Staffs. In his career, Steve sent 20 of his players to play in the All-Star game, including his son Joe in the Summer of 2015. The NEMFCA is honored to now welcome Coach Colfack to his rightful place in the Eight-Man Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

*1000 Yard Guy sez…..I really love and respect this gentleman and the seemingly endless things he did for the game of 8-Man football in this state. As a player, Steve rambled for 1,402 yards his senior season and between him and his thousand yard running mate Jim Sibbel (1,093 yards) in that Wildcat backfield, they made life pretty uncomfortable for opposing defenses.
That just barely scratches the surface of the “Steve Colfack Story” because what he accomplished as a coach at his alma mater at Butte then Bertrand is legendary! Coach Colfack is one of the best ever to coach the game of 8-Man football.
