Week 2 High School Football Heroes
*Ty Ottoson-Potter-Dix -- My friend with the good hands tied an 8-Man single game touchdown record by hauling in 7 scoring strikes in a wild 86-68 win over Wauneta-Palisade Friday. He scored from 53, 30, 6, 13, 7, 60 and 6 yards with 5 touchdowns coming in the first half. Ottoson had over 1300 yards receiving as a sophomore 2 years ago.
*Colin Janitscheck-Pleasanton -- Nifty quarterback lit up the Loomis skies by completing 37 of 55 passes for 451 yards and 6 touchdowns. Janitscheck's TD strikes went for 9, 35, 17, 1, 24 and 15 yards in the wild 44-37 victory over the Wolves. Check this out....a week ago Janitscheck was 6-8 in the air for 119 yards and 3 scores. Talk about a shock for Loomis.
*Jake Paulsen-Cozad - :10.6 hundred man exploded for 278 yards on 26 carries and scored on runs of 86, 67 and 24 yards in the Haymakers 28-14 win over Gibbon. Paulsen has 485 yards rushing in 3 games thus far in 2011.
*Zach Decker-Beatrice -- Call him Mr. Everything last Friday night in the Nebraska City game. Decker had 100 receiving yards, intercepted 2 passes on defense and booted a 52 yard field goal in the Orangeman 59-14 route.
*Tommy Ernst and Jake Ek-Columbus -- Ek has his usual dynamite performance with 109 yards on 12 totes and 171 yards passing on 10 of 14 accuracy. Ek turned the bulk of the rushing over to Ernst, who promptly ran for 202 yards on 25 touches and scored on runs of 5, 2 and 5 yards.
*James Kruger-Norris -- 1000 yarder from a year ago, Kruger carried the ball a heavy 37 times and ran for 209 yards and a score but it wasn't enough to beat Elkhorn South who won the game 20-7. South, who was winless in their inaugural season a year ago, is unbeaten in through 3 games in 2011.
*Graham Nabity-Elkhorn High -- Another stellar rushing night for Nabity in a 21-17 win over tough Plattsmouth. He ran for 164-31 and scored from 4 yards out in the "W".
*Dillon Simonson -- Sandhills-Thedford -- Ran for 214 yards against a tough Mullen team last Friday.
*Sam Lowe-North Bend -- Had a monster rushing evening against Wayne. Lowe ran for 233 yards on 28 carries. The Tigers are enjoying some success this season with a 2-1 record right now.
*Jacob Hess-Columbus Scotus --Quite a night for Mr. Hess as he ran for 138 yards on only 10 carries, and had 3 receptions for 108 yards in the 'Rocks 42-14 win over Battle Creek.
*Jake Eklund-Friend -- Rushed for 267 yards on only 15 carries and scored 5 touchdowns from long distance. His rambles included jaunts of 43, 73, 34, 50 and 41 yards. Think the kid can run? His season rushing total after 2 games is 527 yards.
* Lance English-SEM -- Speedster blasted through GI Heartland Lutheran for a whopping 308 yards on 23 carries and scored on runs of 6, 15, 37, 65, and 6 yards and returned a kick-off 72 yards for a score for good measure.
*Kevin Hoshor-St. Edward -- Things looked like the old days in St. Ed when Hoshor rushed for 240 yards on 21 carries and scored from 65, 36 and 4 yards out. The Beavers blasted North Loup/Scotia 60-25 last Thursday in the 6-Man contest.
We'll be taking in the UNK 8-Man Football Classic this Friday that will feature a double header. At 5:00, Elwood (3-0) will take on Bertrand (3-0) and in the 8:00 night cap, unbeaten Alma will tangle with Axtell (0-3). Should be a kick with three unbeaten teams playing.
