WALLACE, Neb. — The Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves regained some winning mojo with their 25-15, 25-16 volleyball sweep of Wallace Tuesday evening. Coach Kory Rohde’s team improved to 9-6 on the season. Longhorns prevail GRANT, Neb. — The Chase County Longhorns improved to 9-8 following their 25-12, 25-8 sweep of host Perkins County Tuesday night. No other details were obtained from these matches. Other area volleyball action on Tuesday saw Southern Valley score a win over Northern Valley, Kan., which gives the Eagles momentum entering an upcoming match against rival Cambridge. Trojans roll to second while others medal at DC-S

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Cambridge’s golf girls were only seven strokes from a title at the Dundy County-Stratton Invitational on Tuesday. The Trojans featured two of three top medalists in Taylor Sayer taking second (93) and Maria Jauken earning third (96). Ryann Lewis (101) made it three of the top five which lifted Cambridge’s 410 to second place behind only North Platte’s JV team (403). Amelia Sayer completed that Trojan team total (120) as she dropped 12 strokes off her score on the front nine (66 to 54). Hannah Matusczak of the North Platte JV (92) edged Sayer for that individual title. Angel Phannensteil of the host DC-S Tigers tied for 10th overall (117) with Southwest’s Cayleigh McConville (117). Southwest (585) finished fifth overall as Alyssa Springer fired the next best score (137). Sophomore McKinzie Baney added a round of 122 for the host DC-S Tigers.

Bison JV softball sweeps at home

McCOOK, Neb. — McCook coach Amy Schiel provided this report of the JV softball’s doubleheader sweep against visiting Chase County on Monday. First game was 5 to 3 McCook won. “We had a tough go at the beginning walking 3 runs in and our bats didn’t come alive until the 2nd inning. In the second, Abby Degnan started the inning with a triple which was followed by a walk from Elise Aguilar a single from Katie Taylor and a single from Faith Raburn which scored 2 runs. In the 3rd inning we added 3 more runs with a walk from Brooke Evans a single by Kaydence Stienbeck, Abby got on by error and Elise hit a double which scored three runs. Second game was 14 to 13 McCook won. Chase County got off to a blazing start scoring 6 runs in the first inning, added 6 more runs in the 2nd inning and 1 run in the 3rd. McCook made a lot of errors and we walked a lot of girls. In the first inning we scored 4 runs off a single from Tesa Nelson, Brooke Evans, Brenna Carner and a couple walks and past balls. didn’t score in the 2nd. Scored 2 in the 3rd off a single from Jada Berry and Brenna Carner. And in the 4th our bats came alive. Elise Anguilar started the inning off with a home run, Katie Taylor folloed with a single, Tessa and Faith both got walked, Brooke had a single, Brenna got on cuz of an error, Tessa Hilker walked, Kaedin Waugh had a double, Elise got walked, Katie had a single and Tesa Nelson had a double to score us 8 runs and win the game cuz of time limit. This was the last jv game. The girls had an awesome season, improving with each practice. They did a great job listening and really worked hard. I was very pleased with their ability to listen, learn and their willingness to never give up.”
