Leaves are stripped from stalks in a cornfield south of McCook, Nebraska, as a result of a severe hailstorm that passed through the area Tuesday evening. Sometimes I don't know why they call it a "vacation". A vacation can be A LOT of work for a mom, especially when it's a family vacation. Actually, it really shouldn't be called a "family" vacation. It should really be called the "kids" vacation because that's usually who has the most fun and most the activities are geared towards. At least that's how it is in our house since our kids are so young...

Who doesn't enjoy a good party? I know I do, and I have just returned from one of the best, the annual Nebraska Star Party held in north-central Nebraska. Merritt Reservoir, near Valentine, Nebraska, has the darkest skies in the state and is the perfect venue for star gazing. Lots of room for camping and room to spread out hundreds of telescopes for astronomical observing...

Recreationalists and irrigators have missed out on benefits from water in Hugh Butler Lake, but the problems with Red Willow Dam have resulted in a better view of the area's past. Archaeologists from the University of Nebraska recently finished a summer session working at a site uncovered by the lake draw-down, showing that roaming hunter-gatherers stopped in the area sometime between 200 B.C. and 1200 A.D...
