The mosquitoes are really thick, at all times of the day, and I was wondering when the city was going to spray for mosquitoes, with all the worry about West Nile virus. EDITOR'S NOTE -- City officials spray on a complaint basis.

I thought it interesting that seven of 10 Nebraskans didn't mind that Bush & Co. were not truthful about the weapons of mass destruction Saddam was supposed to have, and consequently the reason for the attack on Iraq. Does that mean they just didn't care, or didn't care as long as it was a Republican doing the fabricating?...

Dear Editor, I have to disagree with Phil Lyons on his comment in the McCook Gazette on June 20. He said he believes "the citizens of McCook can make just as good an educated guess as the City Council can with the information they have received throughout the past 15 years of water problems."...

Down through the years, the McCook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad did a tremendous amount of good for this community and the surrounding region, helping to save lives and limit property damage with their devoted and courageous service. Even now, as the squad passes out of existence, the volunteers continue to give back to the town and the area they served...

City to spray tonight

The city of McCook will spray for mosquitoes today, beginning at sundown. The spraying that the city will do is in addition to the treatment with larvicide of standing or slow-moving water on public property. Also, donated by Dale Fattig, were "mosquito fish," which were placed in the bonds at Barnett Park to help eliminate mosquito larvae...

Fire department fundraiser Sunday

Two weeks remain until splashdown

Another two weeks. It will be another two weeks until the McCook swimming pool is open to the public. With a new bathhouse still under construction, the opening date for the swimming pool has been pushed back to Friday, July 4, according to Public Works Director Marty Conroy. Although regularly open by Memorial Day weekend, the pool was originally scheduled to open this Friday. The two-week delay has been attributed to the wetter-than-normal weather, "which has been a killer," Conroy said...
