Supporters pledge all-out effort

United in support of the Work Ethic Camp, members of the Community Involvement Committee pledged Thursday to do all within their power to get funding for the camp restored to the state budget. Dear Editor, With the coming of spring, so comes spring cleaning. The rich are busy as beavers cleaning and throwing away stuff so they can go buy new stuff. Enter the bottom feeders. Just as the catfish live on the bottom of the lakes, feeding on what others didn't eat, so in McCook more and more are hitting the trash dumpsters...

Noise is back

A new race promoter and illegal noise levels is back every Friday night until mid- July. Our special group of car racers, 90 percent out-of-towners, must have a bunch of get-out-of jail free cards, or city police, council and manager just don't want to enforce the existing laws and ordinances about noise levels in the city of McCook limits...

Work Ethic Camp needs our help now

This is an urgent appeal to all who support Nebraska's Work Ethic Camp in McCook. Your help is needed ... now. Within the next three to four weeks, the 49 members of the Nebraska Legislature will determine the fate of the camp. The senators will do so when they decide whether or not to include funding for the camp in the state's budget...

Care packages

Kelli Zwickle of McCook National Bank helps load 50 military care packages collected and coordinated by the bank. Her husband, Travis, is deployed in the military, presently stationed in Wisconsin. The bank expressed appreciation to those who provided names and address, those who attended a bake sale, the Ward school students for coloring pictures to send in the packages, and the many businesses and individuals who assisted...

Housing group takes steps to complete task

The McCook Housing Partnership has taken the final step necessary for successful completion of FHLBank Topeka's Rural Technical Assistance Program. By developing a strategic plan of action to address priorities in the community, the partnership has created a future role for itself in addressing long-term housing needs. So two geese are standing by the side of the road ... stop if you've heard this one before. Actually, the geese are not the butt of a joke, but two actual birds who have been hanging out by the highway south of McCook recently. Every day I looked for those geese by the side of the road or in the nearby ponds and there they were; the two geese hanging out by themselves and they quickly became a part of my family's morning routine...
