False alarm could have been fatality

A call to the McCook Public Safety Center on Thursday afternoon left officials frustrated and concerned. The caller, apparently a young child, reported a fire at a non-existent address in McCook. Four trucks from the fire department responded, along with four police officers and numerous volunteer firefighters. For 35 minutes a search ensued around the McCook area, only to find the call had been false...

There are a lot of dark deeds done in this day and age, I'm sure you'll agree. We caution our youngsters not to talk to strangers and to allow a young child, especially our sons, to go into a public restroom unaccompanied is to invite disaster. We lock our cars, deadbolt our homes against intruders and thieves, and guard our credit card numbers as if they were gold, because they may well be. ...
