Week Eight Friday Night Lights Football Heroes - 11-Man

*Tay Tay Jenkins, Everett Scherslizin-Omaha Westside - The spectacular Tay Tay Jenkins had to be near the top of his game in Omaha Westside's 52-20 victory over a tough Creighton Prep Team. The explosive Jenkins rushed 15 times for 196 yards while taking runs of 11, 41, 20, and 33 yards to the house. He also caught two passes for 39 yards and returned a kickoff 91 yards for an additional score. That gives Jenkins 1,438 yards rushing yards and 22 touchdowns for the year. Kicker Everett Scherslizin was 7 for 7 on PAT boots and kicked a 43 yard field goal in the Warriors big victory.
*Landry Maas, Brockston Tepley, Nathan Axmann, Gavin McMillian-Waverly - Sophomore backup place kicker Landry Maas booted the game winning field goal with no time remaining on the clock as Class B #2 Waverly defeated Class B #1 Norris 42-41. Ironically, Maas went 0 for 4 on field goal tries in a junior varsity game last Monday against Norris. Waverley posted some wicked statistics in the win with QB Brockston Tepley connecting on 16 of 27 passes for 374 yards and 3 TDs while powerful RB Nathan Axmann was rumbling for 211 yards and 3 TDs on 28 carries, helping the Vikings to the huge win. 6-2, 185 lb junior cornerback Gavin McMillian also picked off THREE passes in the Colossal battle of the Class B Kingpins.
*Evan Greenfield, Markus Nelson, Kyson Gana, Aaron Godtel-Norris - The Titans of Norris also had huge stars in the 45-42 loss to Waverly. QB Evan Greenfield completed 12 of 24 passes for 310 yards and 4 TDs, punted the ball 6 times for a 41.3 average and was 4-4 on PAT boots. Running back Markus Nelson gained 132 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown while Kyson Gana was a big recipient of Evan Greenfield passes in this baby, catching 5 for 224 yards, FOUR going for touchdowns. Aaron Godtel also had two interceptions in this game.
*Jeron Cannon-Omaha North - Was as good as gold again in the Vikings 41-20 victory over Bellevue West, bolting for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. That gives Cannon an even 1,200 yards on the ground with one regular season remaining.
*Parker Volk, Jack Poppe, Luke Askey-Doniphan-Trumbull - QB Parker Volk completed 16 of 30 passes for 274 yards and 4 TDs in the Cardinals 24-7 victory over a much improved Hastings St Cecilia squad. That gives Volk 1,978 yards through the air with 30 touchdowns through 8 games. Jack Poppe caught 4 of Volk's aerials for 103 yards with a pair of TDs while Luke Askey hauled in 7 passes for 115 yards with a TD.
*Derek Tonjes, Logan Fangmeyer, Landon Mohs, Cael Smith- Ashland Greenwood - QB Derek Tongas was deadly in Bluejays 70-28 victory over Omaha Brownell-Talbot, completing 13 of 16 passes for 296 yards and FIVE TDs. Logan Fangmeyer caught 5 passes for 157 yards and 2 TDs. Langdon Mohs caught a pair of aerials for 89 yards and scoring jaunts covering 52 and 37 yards while RB Cael Smith gained 92 yards on 8 carries with a touchdown and returned a 72 yard kick return to the House.
*Cole Murdock, Rhodee Hill-Hershey - QB Cole Murdock rambled for 141 yards and 2 TDs on 14 carries and recovered a fumble in Hershey's heartbreaking 29-22 loss to a highly rated Kearney Catholic team. RB/LB Rhodee Hill rushed for 97 yards on 18 carries, caught 2 passes for 34 yards and led the defense with 13 stops.
**1000 Yard Rusher Alert - 2nd Time Around*
*Nate Kelly Scottsbluff - All-State Football/Basketball star Nate Kelly hit the 1000 yard rushing mark for the second straight season in the Bearcats 21-7 victory over Mccook. Kelly rushed 30 times for 207 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win, lifting him over the magical mark yet again.
*Will Gutz, Ty Bouaphakeo, Lane Molacek, Myles Gifford-Bennington - In the Badgers 31-14 victory over Omaha Skutt: RB Will Gutz rushed for 142 yards and a score on 21 carries, QB Ty Bouaphakeo completed 11 of 17 passes for 141 yards and a TD, sophomore Lane Molacek caught two passes for 71 yards which included a 55 yard TD reception and Myles Gifford had a sparkling 81 yard kickoff return to the house and also made eight tackles defensively.
*Jase Kaminski, Eli Shada, Kip Brigham, Harrison Krueger, Jack Krueger-Wahoo - Mighty Wahoo decided to take to the air in their 35-0 win over Fort Calhoun. QB Jase Kaminski completed 11 of 19 passes for 171 yards and 3 TDs. Eli Shada caught 5 of Kaminski's passes for 98 yards with three going for touchdowns covering 46, 5 and 22 yards. Kip Brigham gained 101 yards on 22 carries with an 8 yard scoring run and Harrison Krueger and Jack Krueger each had 10 tackles to pace the Warriors defense.
*Connor Sams-Gretna East - Seemed literally unstoppable in Gretna East's 35-23 victory over Elkhorn North. Sams rambled for 252 yards and 3 scores on 22 carries in the big victory, giving him 1,383 yards and 16 TDs to date in 2025.
*Grayson Sack, Jack Alberts, Crusader Defense-GICC - Talented quarterback Grayson Sack rushed for 105 yards which included a 52 yard TD run and added 196 yards through the air including a 37 yard scoring strike to Jack Alberts. Alberts also scored on runs covering 1 and 9 yards and added 41 yards on the ground in the GICC’s impressive 37-0 victory over C-2, #5 Boone Central. The stout Crusader defense held the Cardinals to 111 total yards in the huge win.
*Troy Olsen, Nolan Asher - Douglas County West - Olsen Completed 10 of 14 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns in DC West’s 34-7 victory over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. Nolan Asher had three receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown and made 8 tackles defensively.
*Wyatt Jelinek- Raymond Central - Talented field general had 166 yards and a touchdown on ground and 119 yards passing with two additional scores in Raymond's 39-7 win over Conestoga. For the year Jelinek has 953 rushing yards with 12 TDs and has thrown for 917 yards and 10 TDs.
*Kaleb Fenner, Otto Henkel, Chieftains “D”-Yutan - Fenner rushed just 7 times for a gigantic 185 yards with 3 TDs, Hinkel gained 106 yards on just 6 touches with a pair of touchdowns, and a solid Yutan defense held David City Aquinas to 128 total yards in their 46-7 win over the winless Monarchs.
*1000 Yard Rusher Alert*
*Layne Davidson-Chadron - 24 carries for 108 yards in the Cardinals 21-20 loss to Gering elevated Davidson over the one thousand yard rushing mark, giving him 1,040 big ones with one regular season game remaining.
*Michael Knudsen, Bryce Lakers, Drew Boltz-Gretna High - Knudsen lit up the skies last Friday by completing 27 of 33 passes for a monster 328 yards and 4 TDs in the Dragon 63-28 win over Ralston. His favorite target, Bryce Lakers, caught 9 passes for 123 yards with a score. Lakers also rushed eight times for 26 yards and with additional 2 TDs. Drew Boltz added 5 receptions for 90 yards with a pair of touchdown catches in the romp.
*Callen Marshall, Will Brockhaus, Jonathan Hartsell- Norfolk Catholic - QB Callen Marshall was 11 of 14 passing for 180 yards two touchdowns in the Knights hard fought 24-22 victory over a determined Battle Creek team. Marshall’s TD passes were caught by Will Brockhaus, a 52 yarder and Jonathan Hartzell, a 34 yard strike.
*Parker Zikmund, Wyatt Dent Central City - Deadeye Parker Zikmund was on target with 19 of his 23 pass attempts for 388 yards and four touchdowns in the Bison's 34-20 win over Broken Bow. State Sprint champion Wyatt Dent caught 7 aerials for a monster 258 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
*Aiden Markum, Dominic Novak-Broken Bow - Markum escaped for 170 yards on 29 carries with a touchdown in that 34-20 loss to Central City. Dominic Novak added 108 yards with a pair of touchdowns on 13 carries in the game.
*Madden Brabec, Jase Stewart-Wood River - Eagles QB Madden Brabec (BRAH-BETTS) did everything in Wood River’s 41-40- win over Superior except drive the bus to and from the game. The senior gunslinger completed 17 of 26 passes for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns, rushed for 132 yards and 4 more TDs on 17 totes, made 12 stops on defense and intercepted a pass. That gives Brabec 1,101 passing yards with 13 TDs for the year and 716 yards on the ground with 15 more TDS. Speedy WR Jase Stewart was the big recipient of Brabec’s aerials, catching six for 121 yards and both Eagles touchdowns. By the way, Wood River trailed 20-0 at halftime in this game.
*Lincoln Sander, Colten Butler, Kyler Boyles, Kamden Boyles, Dane Clark -Superior - Wildcats QB Lincoln Sander hit 7 of 12 passes for 196 yards with a pair of TDs in a Superior's wild 42-41 loss to Wood River. Colton Butler caught 4 passes for 126 yards with a score. Kyler Boyles gained 139 yards rushing and scored 3 TDs on 33 carries and added a sparkling 87 yard TD catch from Sander in the win. Defensively, Kyler's sophomore brother Kamden had 13 tackles while Dayne Clark led the way with 17 stops (3 TFL) and a sack in the game.
