The venerable Howard Schumann.
Later today, the face of GICC will walk out of that institution for the final time as Activities Director. Howard Schumann, the only Activities Director that school really has ever known, will check things out, make certain everything is in order, and walk out in command for the final time.
Over 40 years of excellence will close the door in the darkness, and in all probability, with little or no fanfare.
I wish I could snap my fingers and suddenly make a 120 piece marching band appear and fire up "Hail to The Chief."
Alas, it will not happen. It's the way The Shoe will want it, I'm sure.
BUT, things will never be the same. Literally impossible. No man gave more to a school in these parts than Mr. Howard Schumann. Those of us who bleed Blue know this.
There is only one Howard.
We all do have a request though, Mr. Schumann, if you might consider it.
You mentioned you will wouldn't be a stranger to the halls of Central Catholic. Please never forget those words. You're going to live to be a hundred anyway because of the exemplary life you've lived. You may just was well spend some of those days with us.
Godspeed on your new Journey my friend. We’ll all be watching just like you watched over all of us.
The Faces, the Voices, the Halls, the Spirits and the Echoes of the past 40+ years at Central Catholic High School.
