  • Just for the record, Mike, saying things like, "telling people that the debt is spiraling out of control, when it has actually decreased over the last two years; telling people that no to little jobs have been created under Obama, when in fact in two years there have been more private sector jobs created than in eight years of Bush..." is not helping your case. When federal borrowing has multiplied by 3 or 4, and unemployment has doubled, you can post all the myths you want without ever making your case. Still, sorry to see you go.

  • Shalom, Mike. I am sorry to see you back away, when I thought that reason might catch a foot-hold on the Blog. If I may offer a thought: You, having a Liberal outlook on our system of government, see things askance from how a Conservative, like myself view life on planet Earth. Who is right, and who is wrong? God knows, but I do know this: Our system of Representative Government cannot succeed, or even function withing the realm of Sanity, if there is only one frame of mind throughout the land. Perhaps a bad example, but Nazism comes to mind, or Islam (even more myopic, and restrictive).

If I may even step a bit farther: Why not keep the Blog going, with only one thing allowed, Discussion on the subject? Any, and I do mean any (including yours, and mine), will be 'Bleeped' from print. Anything resembling a denigrating, or negative personality, comment, Bleeped.

Who knows, perhaps, you could go down in the History Books, as the man who figured out how to take the system back to a Respectful and Productive discussion site, where Positive Solutions are actually found. Worth a two month try?? I, for one pledge to support the endeavor as best I can, when I have something positive to utter, and my silence is my respect of others, and not having anything constructive to utter.

What say you, Brother?? What say you, Readership??

Interestingly, I came here today, to post a Poem/Lilt, concerning the election, tomorrow. I still will, in the hopes that it is not 'Bleeped.':

Voting Poem or Lilt (to the tune of Black Bird, with last stanza from Hi Ho song)

    by Arley Steinhour 110110

Pack up all the cares and whoa,

    Here We go, 'Voting Joe,'

    Bye, Bye, Spend-thrifts.

We don't care which team you're on,

We will vote, and then you're gone,

    Bye, Bye, Spend-thrifts.

Every time a zero, adds to ... spend...ding,

We and ours ... don't know who is ... len ... ding.

With God's help, and 'Grind-stone Nose,'

    We'll recover, from spending Blow's.

    Save our Country.

    Country going down the drain,

    Will it ever float again,

    Save our Country.

Voting is the only way to ... save ... it,

If we don't, God will never ... Bless ... it.

    Never can another say,

we did it any other way.

    Saving, Country.

    People vote-in honest folk

    We'll recover, ain't no Joke.

    Saving, Country.

So, get out, and vote away ... on ... Tuesday,

A Right outcome will dispel a ... Blues ... day.

SO: ... Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it's off to Vote We go,

With our vote in hand, We rule the land, ... Hi-Ho, ... Hi ... Ho.

Anyone wishing to, please copy and send to your family and friends. Who knows, perhaps we can get a few voters more out, so the Will of the People is heard, without lies, and smears, only sound thought, and prayerful (if of Faith) direction in our choices. May the Will of the People, once again be heard throughout the Land.

You chose, folks, but with the rift we presently have, we may well be 'Self-Dooming' Freedom. )^8

"I will post again, but for the time being things have just gotten out of hand."

Funny, I thought things had just gotten back in hand. I looked back over the past several blogs and finally I thought I saw an end to the senseless attacks and a turn towards real discussion. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that once a sensible debate starts to break out, Mike decides its time to leave. It appears to me he is only interested in the divisive name calling that was so prevalent by him and his most vocal supporters.

So Mike, when you get some more air for you ball, we'll still be around to play. I'm not surprised this break is happening right around the time of the elections that don't look too well for Democrats in general and Liberals in particular.

I rest my case, thanks for proving my points Mrs Smith, SWNebr Transplant. You two I can always count on to senselessly attack. SW, thank you for once again criticizing me for something you have done yourself. I am sure the irony is lost on you. Thank you as well janekleeb for saying that this is so predictable despite never having posted on any of the blogs before.

Navy, thank you once again for being respectful despite our differences. You are the lone bright spot among the posters on this blog. I have tried your suggestion before and in turn was called a censor because I expected respect and people to follow the rules. I agree 100% with you. If people are registered to vote there is no reason (Democratic, Republican, Independent, and all between) to stay home tomorrow.

Despite the claims (interesting how people that do not know me or how I think, though they do like claiming they do, know exactly that the election tomorrow is why I am backing off) no matter the outcome tomorrow I will not blog on it.

I find it interesting I thought I was entitled to take some time off. Considering that I am the great Censor, a power I never knew I had, I guess it was foolish of me to actually think that I would be shown any respect for wanting to take a step back.

Sadly, it is proven once again, that I am hated because of what I believe and will forever be trashed for daring to not be Conservative.

I just have a thought, what if you all are wrong tomorrow? What if the Democrats are able to hold onto one or both houses? Will you give credit, or as Mickel has already stated will you start claiming that yet another election has been stolen? My hope is that you all will take a step back yourselves, take a deep breath and see that hating people because they don't agree with you is very counter-productive.

As Jon Stewart said; We are "in hard times, not end times."

Peace to all, even those that hate me. I love you all despite your hatred.

  • Mike,

You are doing what every conservative accusses liberals of doing and that is sounding like you are a victim. Let me get this straight you are quitting because you have been victimized. My gosh. Take some academic advice: Go back and reflect on why you started this blog; determine if you accomplished what you intended; realize what you could have done differently; fix it and return. Bottom line: Do you let your students quit when the going gets tough in life? don't be a quitter if you believe in what you were doing. Otherwise you are a whiner and a quitter and a bad example for others.

  • I think these blogs a supposed to be a sparring match in the arena of ideas, not a full blown fist fight, I know I am guilty of this. There are many times I have gone back to look at my posts and say to myself "my God, do I really think like this. Sadly, politics and religion brings out the worst in us as we try to defend our beliefs. Again, no one is more guilty than I.

My apologies Mike. Enjoy your time off, find the things in your life that are really important. You might be pleasantly surprised. And get away from that computer. Spend that time with your wife and children. Just work on being the positive role model for them. And stop worrying about being right all the time. Sometimes the greatest joy is learning you may be wrong, then finding out why.

    I hope this makes sense.

  • A liberal, non-Christian, Pro - Choice, Anti United States WWII blogger should expect some flak from the population of a Conservative, Christian, Pro - Life, Patriotic newspaper.

Mike - you got the expected reaction.

As the mod - you should have posted your thoughts then let people respond. You getting in the gutter is what caused you your pain.

BTW if your economic picture is accurate:

"I have grown tired of the political climate that we are in. It is infuriating that a minor political side can grow a movement out of misinformation: telling people that their taxes are going up, when they have in fact dropped; telling people that the debt is spiraling out of control, when it has actually decreased over the last two years; telling people that no to little jobs have been created under Obama, when in fact in two years there have been more private sector jobs created than in eight years of Bush. What is even worse is that all of this lying has worked (with help from main stream media)."

The democrats will do fine today.

  • Jane Kleeb is a political figure married to another political figure, Scott Kleeb. She filed a complaint against her political opposites then her political opposites filed a complaint against her (or so they say they will file a complaint against her), both complaints were filed with the Nebraska Accountabilty and Disclosure commission for violating campaign and campaign finance rules.

Funny that once again you are going after me for doing something you yourself did not two weeks ago, or have you forgotten.

Didymus, since neither ocho or SW seem inclined to give you a serious answer, Aditum is latin for admission.

I didn't "go after" you for it, I pointed out what ochosinco said.

I stopped talking to Guillermo because of his consistend bigotted attitude. We come to find out I was justified in doing so. I didn't leave the boards, I stopped talking to him and you in large part to let you have your Liberal Utopia. It turns out it really was "no place" since almost all of the other left wing whackos showed their true colors and were banned or left. I've told you how to get me to stop talking to you.

Whoever it was who pointed out you needed thicker skin could not have been more right.

    Mike,

    Serious question warning:

Do you mean admission as in "Please don't consider the fact that you found me in your lingerie as an admission that I cross dress on a general basis"?

or as in "I had to pay $15 admission to listen to the lousy band play"?

"So Mike, when you get some more air for you ball, we'll still be around to play. I'm not surprised this break is happening right around the time of the elections that don't look too well for Democrats in general and Liberals in particular."

Yeah, SW, that's definitely not going after me. Telling me to put more air in ball. What's funniest about your statement is that for all that we heard about this being a referendum on liberal policies there are more liberal Democrats in Congress now than moderate and conservative combined. They lost only one seat, so actually the election was pretty good for Liberals. When you look at the data the people that got thrown out of Congress were the Democrats that were conservative. Liberal Democrats either didn't show up to vote or, like me, voted for another party altogether and with conservative running on the Republican side, the conservative base for those Democrats was gone.

This was a referendum alright, it was a referendum on conservative Democrats and they were largely shown the door.

It's interesting though that you can completely explain away your moment of "taking the ball and going home" by saying that you were just tired of talking to me and a poster so you went to another blog but for me, in your eyes, it's simply that I need to get a thicker skin. The two are rather remarkably similar.

You want to ask a serious question and then you follow it with cross-dressing? So much for the serious question.

To answer you "serious" question. The admission was that at the time I was tired of the ugliness and I was going to step back. Yeah, it didn't last very long. The second serious question doesn't really make any sense and had really hoped you could have figured that out for yourself considering no where in blog did I mention anything about charging anyone to do anything.

  • Oil and S&P looking good. I got fantastic signals to buy that don't happen very often. I think I pointed out that these signals have happended in the past prior to major up moves. We got long the S&P at 1040 and oil at $75. That puts the S&P on an annulized basis up 100%. This current oil move, on an annulized basis, puts us up 96%.

Resistance for the S&P is 1225-1247. If we clear this, than we are up to the mid 1300's. Resistance for oil is $92-$96. If we clear that we are up to $105.

Watch the upmove. S&P is giving a probabilty of a vertical move up.

    Mike,

Another serious question: Do you lack the ability for abstract thought?

I think you need to read a little more carefully. The question was what meaning of admission were you using. The joke about cross-dressing was just that...a joke. Again I agree with whomever said your skin is too thin. I gather from your diatribe that the meaning you meant was from the first example, the one that included the cross-dressing joke. Thank you.

I didn't mean to imply you were charging anyone for anything and I think you are probably the only reader who assumed that I was. I was using it as an example of a possible definition for admission. Here is another example using the same meaning for the word admission: "I gained ADMISSION to the masquerade ball by dressing Cinderella."

Do you now see the difference or are you still confused?

No the reason you need thicker skin is that if anyone says anything you disagree with you seem to take it as a personal attack. If someone does make a personal attack you tend to freak out about it, instead of letting it bounce off of your "thick skin".

    You make me giggle.

You really are the last person that should be lecturing anyone about getting thick skin. That aside I get a kick out of you and the others that always jump to the "you have thin skin" argument whenever I defend my actions or my words, or if I correct someone because they have falsely (purposefully or otherwise)attributed a misstatement to what have I actually said.

I do have a thick skin. I have to for my career. This website has helped me develop that think skin because I know that when I write about liberalism people are going to come out of the wood work and call me every name in the book simply because of how I believe.

I'm sorry SW maybe, once again, you need to actually read my posts instead of picking pieces out of it, because I quite clearly stated what form of admission I was using. I'm sorry that you are still confused on the subject.

Yay! we get to go back and forth on who doesn't read! I know what form you were using after you answered my question. I even thanked you for it, there is no confusion on my part. The only confusion I had was initially when you said it meant admission you didn't define what you meant.

I will proudly admit that I have thin skin over people denigrating people with cognitive disabilties, really any disabilities, but the cognitive ones were what I was fighting with Guillermo about. Mock me all you want, just please don't mock people with disabilities.

In your career as a graduate student you need thick skin? Or are you working again?

    Ok Mike,

I just want to be painfully clear on what you think Aditum means and where you got it. Could you please do so? Because I'm finding out it doesn't mean what you think it means and before I embarrass you again I want to make sure your side of the story is out there.

It is highly indictive of who you are that you believe correcting someone, that person admitting to the mistake and making the corrections to their argument as embarrassing them. Really just shows how stand up of a guy you really are SW.

Justin I never said I owned the word evil. I found it very odd though that apparently you don't believe it should be used at all. My example from my post was, and does, to show that there are several posters on this site that believe me or anyone that is liberal to be almost worse than terrorists. It is really telling when I turn on the television and am told that the most dangerous person to America is not a terrorist but our own President.

It sickens me as I would hope sickens you. I have never apologized for or supported anyone that compared Bush to Hitler. It's not a fair or accurate comparison. It just mistifies me that after two years you can honestly say that the only time you have seen the comparison between Obama and Hitler was on this blog.

Actually mike, I would have to agree with SW. As Inigo Montoya would say, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Aditum means entrance. Let me give you some other options when you are trying to go all Pseudo-intellectual.

    confessio -onis f. [a confession , acknowledgment].

confiteor -fiteri -fessus dep. [to confess , admit, acknowledge; to reveal, make known]. Hence partic. confessus -a -um: in act. sense, [having confessed]; pass., [undoubted, acknowledged, certain].

fateor fateri fassus dep. [to confess , admit, allow; to reveal, make known].

profiteor -fiteri -fessus dep. [to acknowledge , confess; to profess or declare oneself anything; to profess a science, art, etc.; to make any public statement; to offer, promise].

Hope this helps out. Gluck with em!

SW, I also hope that this sooths your pain at having to point this out to Mike.
