Remembering 2010

Posted Friday, December 31, 2010, at 7:33 PM

Well in a few short hours 2010 will be a distant memory. I thought I would close out the year with a couple of lists. Nothing too long:

Best movies of 2010:

For me there is only one movie that even deserves to be the top movie of the year. This movie was excellently written, directed, and acted. It was originally written nine years ago as a horror movie, but Christopher Nolan decided that he wanted to direct a few big time movies before he tackled this. Because he waited we got a much better movie for it

1. Inception

2. Despicable Me

3. Clash of the Titans

4. Alice in Wonderland

5a. Iron Man 2

5b. Devil

Best Album of 2010:

I was not all that greatly impressed with albums that came out in 2010 and among the five listed below I could not pick out one that stood above all. The Avenged Sevenfold album was very interesting in that they recruited Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) to play drums on the album for their drummer that died. Portnoy eventually left Dream Theater (a band he had co-founded in the 1980s) and is now the touring drummer for A7X.

Avenged Sevenfold: Nightmare

Kings of Leon: Come Around Sundown

Michael Buble: Crazy Love

Green Day: 21 Guns

Weezer: Hurley

Top Games of 2010:

The top choice for me is a very easy choice. It is a sequel that actually does something few sequels are able to do and that is improve on the original. The third (and final according to the studio) is slated to come out in either late 2011 or early 2012. The game that comes in at second is without a doubt the most unheralded game of 2010. It's sales would have been much higher but it was released at the same time as Red Dead Redemption (and that game was a surprise run away hit).

1. Mass Effect 2

2. Alan Wake

3. Red Dead Redemption

4. NCAA Football 2011

5. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (Expansion)

Top Shows of 2010:

1. Criminal Minds

2. Storm Chasers

3. Deadliest Catch

4. The Walking Dead

5. Any college football game

Worst Moments of 2010:

1. The BP Oil Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico

2. Losing three actors from the movie Airplane! within months of one another

3. Extension of the Bush-era tax cuts

4. The Glenn Beck Rally

5. Sarah Palin's new "reality" show (don't believe me? the viewership has plummeted with each new show)

Happy New Year Everyone

Getting to keep less money under the Bush version of taxes than what you would have received under the Obama version was one of your best moments? Even though the actual bill that does that does not actually go into law until this year? Well, who am I to argue that?

The Treasury does accept donations. Just contribute the money you would have received from the Bush tax cuts and send it to the IRS. Personally, knowing that I'll get to keep about $400 more of my own money is one of my best moments of 2010.

I found a fun fail list for fox news today, figured I would share.

Happy New Year Mike

Your list isn't too bad 'till the end. I doubt I'd have included 2-5 for the worst moments of 2010.

Here's mine from 2 on down...

2. Haiti earthquake

3. Korea problems

4. Upper Big Branch Mine disaster - 38 miners killed

5. Denver Broncos beaten at home by hated Raiders by record score.
