Forget the other Wars, We need a war on IgnorancePosted Friday, August 20, 2010, at 12:24 PM
We are a nation of fools. At least recently we have become so. There is too large a percentage of our population that will believe ANYTHING they see on television, on the internet, or in their email. If they see it they believe it.
Over the last two years, however, the fear and paranoia has crept it's way into that ignorance and it is starting to affect our government and it is time that we wage a war (figuratively speaking of course) against the ignorance that has invaded this country.
Right now, in this country we are having serious conversations about whether a faith can worship where they choose to worship and repealing the 14th Amendment, and amendment that was paid for in blood during the Civil War. Do not be fooled both conversations are led by people that are feeding on the ignorance, fear, and paranoia to push thee conversations. For them it has nothing to do with freedom of religion but reminding everyone that 9/11 happened and once again forcing us not to just remember that horrible day but relive it. They love that last part because they know the more ignorant among us will fall to their fear and paranoia and forget about the Constitution if it means they can stop Muslims from building a Center. The conversation on the 14th Amendment is nothing more than nativism. It is an election attack on illegal immigrants that those depending on the ignorance of people hope the focus will stay there and not on the fact that this particular amendment has been held up time after time for well over one hundred years. They really do not want to amend it or add a new amendment to nullify it, they just want to win an election and they know that in their particular state any talk against illegal immigration will help them.
Then there is the new poll that has come out where an incredibly large amount of Americans now believe Obama to be Muslim.
This is where ignorance just turns into flat stupidity. There is no proof anywhere that Obama was ever a Muslim. Sure, those wanting you to stay ignorant of facts will throw their own version of truth at you. They will also hope that you will not follow up on their "truth" and research it because they know you will find out that they are just a bunch of hot air.
Unfortunately though we are facing a pandemic in this country and that is simply blissful ignorance. People will believe whatever they want if it will allow them to stay blissfully ignorant of the world around you.
For those that want to keep pushing the ignorance that keeps you in the power you believe you have show me the proof. If you want to run around claiming that Obama is Kenyan born Muslim. Show me the proof. If you can not then do not bother to try to convince me.
If you want to go run around claiming that Obama is a Nazi, socialist, communist, fascist prove it to me. If you can not then do not bother to try to convince me.
If you want to run around claiming that the new Muslim Center is being built at Ground Zero and that politicians offering their "advice" is not about Freedom of Religion, prove it to me. If you want to continue running around making that claim while a Mosque stands only two blocks further away, while strip clubs and bars and off track betting sites are within a stones throw away are not that big a deal but this is prove it to me. If you want everyone to believe that Muslims are being insensitive to 9/11 victims all the while there is a Mosque in the Pentagon, which was also attacked on 9/11 prove it to me. If you can not do not bother trying to convince me otherwise.
If you want to go around making the claim that you have the right to use the N-word on the radio and that those that criticize you for using the word are encroaching on your Freedom of Speech, read the Constitution first. After that prove it to me. If you can not then do not bother me with it. You believe you have the right to use the N-word with no backlash, I believe I have the right to call you a racist. I have the proof behind me, you do not.
If you want to run around claiming that extending Bush-era tax cuts can be extended without paying for them and raising the deficit, prove it to me.
If you want to run around claiming that the oil in the gulf is mostly gone, prove it to me.
The focus of proof is no longer on me. I, and others like me that like to be informed, back up arguments with facts otherwise the argument is not made. The focus of proof is on those of you who like to make bold claims with no backing proof.
If you can not prove your claim do not come to me trying to make me believe you. I will just smile at you and continue with my life. But not to worry there are plenty of ignorant people in this country that will believe your lies.
You are on notice though. Those of us that actually like to research claims before believing or making them are growing tired of your baseless claims and we are starting to fight back with truth to your ignorance.
