Alaska Plane* CrashPosted Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at 12:45 PM
Details are still extremely sketchy at this point but what is know is that a small plane has crashed in Alaska. Former head of Nasa Sean O'Keefe was aboard the plane. It is believed that former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was also on board, though there has been no confirmation. His family has released a statement but did not state whether or not he was on the plane.
There are fatalities, and the crash was caused by weather.
Whether you liked the former Senator or not now is a good time to keep him and his family as well as O'Keefe in your thoughts and prayers. No matter how you view a person when they leave this earth they deserve some level of respect.
For my part I hope he is alive and well.
UPDATE (1:24) CNN is now reporting that Ted Stevens was on board and has died in the plan crash. MSNBC and Fox News have not reported this and it has NOT been confirmed as of yet.
UPDATE (1:42) MSNBC, NBC, and Fox News all reporting that Ted Stevens has died. MSNBC is reporting that a spokesman for Ted Stevens has confirmed that he died in the crash. There is still no word on O'Keefe. They are reporting 5 deaths and three survivors (which does not match the number that has been reported of being on the plane, 9).
I will wait for more details before making it official on here. It is tragic loss for the state of Alaska. He was selected as a replacement in the Senate when Alaska was not even a decade old yet and he went on to serve 40 years before retiring in 2008 under a cloud, but that does not take away from the service he gave to his state and his country.
UPDATE (1:59) Ted Stevens' family has been notified of his death. This is a tragic loss not only for Alaska but for all Americans.
There is still no confirmation on O'Keefe. I can, however, report that there are 4 survivors, 5 deaths.
UPDATE (4:14) All networks and websites are reporting Sean O'Keefe and his son were among the four survivors. This has been confirmed by the company in which O'Keefe is COO of, EADS. Thanks to Navyblue for staying on top of the story as well.

I will post more as I get more information.
