A Much Needed and Extended BreakPosted Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 4:10 PM
Many of you have been wondering why many of my blogs have been taken down. I have taken several down because of some of the hate filled rhetoric that was permeating through them by posters on both sides of the political spectrum.
The main reason revolved around a poster (whose name I will not reveal) who advocated overthrowing the government by any means necessary. I flagged the comment for what it was. It not only violate two of McCook's stated terms of services:
# Do not post obscene, profane, sexually explicit, libelous, slanderous, defamatory, harmful, threatening, illegal or knowingly false information;
# Do not post blatant expressions of bigotry, racism or hate, material encouraging conduct that may constitute or contribute to a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability or violate any national, state or local law, regulation or authority, or any other material which RUST COMMUNICATIONS finds objectionable
In particular in the first part it violated the illegal portion and in the second part it violated the section of criminal offense and worst of all it violated several national laws.
I know that when you come onto this website you believe that you have freedom of speech to spout off any kind of vile and traitorous language you want to. If you honestly believe that you simply do not understand the First Amendment and you also do not understand the perfectly simple rules established by the McCook Gazette.
I have objected to the way the staff of the mccookgazette.com handle the red flagging and I am not in any way taking away from what they do. But after several days of that post still being up I took the only course of action that I actually could. I removed a good portion of my blogs.
I am not solely directing the hateful rhetoric at one particular side or another but the hateful rhetoric was getting out of hand. It still amazes me that with a chance to debate political ideologies and differences there are those particular individuals that only want to deride and blame and call names and then direct the blame at anyone but themselves. I have fallen for the name calling and I apologize for that.
Why some posters have been allowed to make absolute false charges about the intentions of others with no reprimand is beyond me.
It amuses me about those that have taken back to Sam's blog that have decided because I did not want the vitriol to continue that I was somehow comparable to a school kid taking his toys and going home. The only way that would be even remotely comparable is if that kid had been continuously stupid, retarded, doper, hitler, gay, etc simply because of what he believe in and the fact that he would dare stand up for what he believed in.
It really is none of my concern how you take this blog. I do not care if you get your feelings hurt or if you think I am doing nothing but whining (all the while defending Sam for taking the same kind of break). Your opinion of this blog will not affect me.
I felt I needed to explain what had happened and to also say that the blogs coming down had nothing to do with management at the McCook Gazette. It was my choice and those blogs will stay down and not come back up.
For some particular posters on this site it is high time that you seriously grow up. All the name calling and derision that is contained in every single one of your blogs has irritated a lot of people. You are the reason that participation on these blogs from not only posters but bloggers themselves is low. Who seriously wants to post on a site knowing that more than likely they are going be called some sort of juvenile name by another poster simply because of what they believe. You should be ashamed of yourselves, but I know that you are not. You revel in the fact that you can act like a five year old and continuously get away with it.
So, with that I am off of here for an extended break. I do not know how long it will be.
Take care my friends, peace and love be with you all.
Michael C. Hendricks
One last note: Another reason for the break is that my blog and Sam's blog has essentially taken over the McCook Gazette blog and I believe that with both of us taking a break for the forseen future will allow for the other bloggers on this site a chance to actually blog and for their blogs to be seen.
I do hope that all the issues currently taking place can be resolved in a positive way for the residents of McCook, McCook Gazette and the McCook Gazette blog page.
