  • "There's the whole health care thing but Republicans got so many amendments into bills that the current bills that are active right now look nothing like they did when they began."

    ??????

I'd like ANY confirming information for THAT wild statement, mike.

    http://politics.nytimes.com/congress/bills/111/hr3590/amendments

Out of this entire list, the ONLY Republican amendment that passed was the one to ignore the new Mammogram guidelines.

    ..........................

"This November could be the first time in American history that a political party has won offices by doing absolutely nothing and blaming the other party for nothing happening."

Um, that was 2008. Your no-accomplishments, no-experience candidate...the one that can't even address 6th grade students without his teleprompter.

Mrs. Smith strikes me as one who would use a term like "Obamunism" and really mean it.

"Your no-accomplishments, no-experience candidate...the one that can't even address 6th grade students without his teleprompter."

Lemme guess.. You wouldn't think anything remotely like this about W. And you probably love that bumper sticker at the top of the blog.

Oh joy here comes the experience argument again. Last time I checked there is NO experience requirement in the Constitution. It's funny that you trash Obama for not having any experience but you wouldn't say the same things about our first president George Washington now would you. By the way MrsSmith the second part of your statement doesn't even match up with the first part of your statement trying to call out my statement about the Republican Party winning seats for doing nothing. Maybe I need to clarify. Republicans have a chance to win House and Senate seats this November despite voting no on every single bill that came before either chamber while at the same time claiming (or lying as it really is) that the Democrats didn't accomplish anything.

The Vice-Presidential candidate on the other ticket served as governor of Alaska for a year and a half before quitting, yet no one on the right ever questioned her experience. Strange.

Also if you are going to say that there was only one Republican amendment passed you might want get a bigger list that 19 of 506 Amendments proposed.

Here's a full list of Amendments for the House bill: http://www.rules.house.gov/amendment_details.aspx?NewsID=4497

By the way what does it matter if he uses a teleprompter? I swear you people come up with some of the weirdest and most pointless things to complain about Obama with.

I believe I'd rather have a president reading from a teleprompter and getting every word right than a president that wings it and does it so badly that it inspires a new word (Bushisms), books, and calendars just based off his screwed up attempts at sounding folksy. I believe my favorite is: "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again." --Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2002

And I know, I know you all are going to come back and applaud him trying to be down home guy, well that's crap. This man was the President of the United States, he's not supposed to be the guy you want to have a beer with. He is the leader of this country and should have acted like it.

  • The author has only part of his facts right.

Republicans offered hundreds of amendments and virtually none were adopted.

Obama continues to be a childish unprofessional liar when he continues to present health companies as unfair. What is fair about his drive to re-write their product blueprints, control their suppliers, and demand a new class of customer be served at prices below their cost? His state-press (AP) did admit weeks ago that health companies averaged 2.2% profit, he refuses. If only he had taken the time to get the facts about his smear-buddy, his signature would be done on a reasonable bill.

And now the feds, with Obama cheering them on, continue their drive to grow Medicaid and all entitlements. In Nebraska there are 230,000 receiving medicaid, and over half of Nebraska births are paid by Medicaid, to the total cost of 1.69 bil, of which Nebraska pays 40%. Even the illegally here get those birth benefits, thanks to Washington's culture of entitlement. What a way to get new voters. Meanwhile, government reports show that the lower half of Americans pay only 1% of the taxes. The other 50% get the other 99% of the taxes.

So, America, instead of Obamination, I ask you to raise your fist in self determination, and not your palm for a handout. Without that maneuver, America is well on the way to unsustainability.

We have only raised the debt limit by 2.12trillion this year. Compare that to the Bush/ Democrat congress effort.

Liberals, doing good. With other people's money.

  • Hey, Jaded,

Good come back...or whatever. :-) At least Mike tries.

-- Posted by MrsSmith on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 8:05 PM
  • I wouldn't have said George Washington had no experience because he led an Army to victory.

The Democrats won in '08 by doing nothing except lie about Pres Bush, point fingers, assign blame, and chant "HOPE AND CHANGE." If you want to claim that's "doing something," go ahead.

If the Republicans win the next set of elections, it'll be because everything the Democrats want is harmful to our country...like a healthcare overhaul that will end up costing billions and Cap and Trade legislation that will end up costing every household a thousand dollars a year.

-- Posted by MrsSmith on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 8:16 PM
  • I find it absolutely hilarious that Democrats are still comparing the President of the United States with the VICE-Presidential candidate of '08. Of course, she did have more experience, a higher security clearance, and was capable of talking to people (EVEN SIXTH GRADERS) without relying on a teleprompter to keep her from sounding like an idiot, so possibly the comparison is still valid.

By the way, did you ever watch Obama's one attempt to speak without his teleprompter? I saw in on YouTube, it was great!!

I just sincerely hope he doesn't sound like that when meeting with foreign officials, you know? He's squandered enough of the respect Bush won for our country without spluttering and stuttering on top of it.

-- Posted by MrsSmith on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 8:21 PM
  • Oh, and at least Bush knew how many states there are.

-- Posted by MrsSmith on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 8:24 PM
  • so i guess when the republicans lost all those seats it was because they were doing harmful things to this country?

I dont know what interview you watched where the vice presedintial canidate did not sound like an idiot. Could you provide your source on the security clearances?

So that is what you have? He uses a teleprompter? Wow

Would you care to expound on her experiance?

-- Posted by president obama on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 9:47 PM
  • Were the Republicans harming the country? It's true that Bush spent a lot more money than we wanted, but not as much as Obama...and wars end, unlike entitlement programs and taxes. It's true that they probably had something to do with the housing crisis, but not as much as the Democrats and their Community Reinvestment Act that forced banks to lend to those that were less likely to pay their mortgages. In no case did they pass anything that would do the kind of harm that Cap&Trade will do.

Without a teleprompter, Palin made a few mistakes, as did Bush. Obama, on the other hand, spent a good 5 minutes saying little more than, "Uh, um, like, gimme a minute, I'll get there." The YouTube of his speech was priceless.

Have you seen the picture of our president addressing a bunch of grade school kids...on a little platform; complete with telepromter, lights, speakers, mics, etc.?

Have you seen the pictures of our former presidents, sitting on school chairs, acting like the kids were kids, not the media? There was quite a contrast.

Aside from assisting a crooked organization like ACORN and running his campaign, did Obama have any experience at anything even resembling running a state, army, country...anything??

  • Smitty, Bucky, Chunky and company:

Reagan/Bush -- Military "adventures" in Somalia [Near total disaster-"Blackhawk Down" -- and "... Somali pirates have hijacked another ship", the Phillipines, Grenada, Panama [Where we went after Papa Bush's ol' CIA "asset" Noriega, from G.H.W. Bush's years as CIA director.]

Economic wipeouts -- Farm foreclosures (Remember farm auctions; Willie's Farm Aid); the U.S. Metals Mining Industry SHUT DOWN (Idaho's Silver Belt and the Black Hills out-of-business for the first time in 100 years); home and small business foreclosures. REMEMBER????

In short, the deepest recession since the 30s.

Bush/Cheney -- Smitty, the reality is DubYah and Shotgun Cheney destroyed this nation's credibility worldwide, ALONG WITH THE GLOBAL ECONOMY.

In one form or another, leaders in country after country have stated about Pres. Obama, "It is astonishing to have discussions in which we are allowed to state our own positions. Rather than as with George Bush, where a two-hour meeting consisted of 110 minutes of him lecturing about his ignorance of our country and the world."

Simple fact, Smitty, by 2008, Cheney was not welcome in more than a dozen major countries. He would fly in, demand a meeting with the Head of State, and get five minutes with a sanitation worker in the alley behind the U.S. embassy.

[You brilliant scholars can research the 2000-2010 online archives of the English language editions of major newspapers worldwide. Pay close attention to the editorial cartoons.]

You have screamed non-stop about Pres. Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. What you will not accept is that in addition to recognizing world-wide renewed faith and hope in U.S. leadership being restored --

THE NOBEL AWARD WAS A CLEAR AND DELIBERATE STATEMENT OF WORLD OPINIONS OF GEORGE W. BUSH AND RICHARD CHENEY, ET AL.

To a large extent, so was Al Gore's Nobel.

Yet, the Gazette gets "....the respect Bush won for our country without spluttering and stuttering on top of it." -- Mrs. Smith

"Were the Republicans harming the country? It's true that Bush spent a lot more money than we wanted, but not as much as Obama...and wars end, unlike entitlement programs and taxes."--Mrs. Smith.

FACT -- The Stimulous, Clunkers and new Home Buyers Bills, are the ONLY new budget actions taken by Congress and the Administration since Jan. 20, 2009.

Stimulous was to get local government going with "shovel ready" projects to create jobs.

(Try driving around any major urban area at night. There will be dozens of hand-crews repairing road surfaces, signs, railings or lights. [I flew in and drove about 60 miles round trip for a business meeting last night. By the time I arrived back at the AVIS airport return at 10 p.m., my mood was foul. There were at least twenty hand crews with enforced lane restrictions repairing streets and highways, ramps, etc. within less than 30 miles between 9 and 9:55 p.m.

The Clunkers Bill -- stimulating auto production.

That was about 100 jobs created to fix roads.

New Home Buyers Credit -- stimulating home purchases and primarily encouraging lenders to restore the national credit market.

BAILOUTS -- Created by Bush, Paulson, Bernake, with the support of both parties in Congress. In fact, without Democratic support, more than half of all of Bush's proposals would have died in Congress -- in Committee and on the floor.

Pres. Obama's contribution in the Bail Out operations was to impose "Executive Bonus" restrictions and require the Bailed Out Banks to put the latter Bail Out moneys into the U.S. economy.

Under the Bush/Bernake designed program, several banks used "YOUR MONEY" and mine, to continue extremely risky investments overseas. That type of investment, plus Derivatives and Sub-Prime Mortgage Based Securities, plus obscene executive bonuses keyed to short term balance sheets, were the COMPLETE combined cause of the banking collapse.

AIG insured the value of a huge percentage of the MBS issues, and may eventually require $250-Billion in assistance.

The bankers, auto industry and AIG Bail Outs and the costs, are ALL Bush/Cheney legacies.

The multi-million dollar executive bonuses ($1-Million to more than $54-MILLION) were strictly a result of the Bush/Bernake designed Bail-Outs. "Give them the money, without conditions."

Bank of American got more than $50-BILLION in bail-out, with the last being so they could buy Merrill-Lynch. B of A's executives approved M.L. awarding its managers more than $1-Billion in bonuses before the actual transfer of ownership. Naturally that BILLION-PLUS had to be replaced with a BILLION-PLUS on Nebraska money.

But why not reward the idiots who ran the M.L. ship onto the rocks and destroyed owners' equity.

Aside from all that -- During the Bush/Cheney years -- The collective Health Insurance industry saw NET PROFITS explode from $2.5-Billion to more than $12.5-Billion. The insurors were extremely profitable in 1998, they became obscenely profitable through 2008.

Finally -- The entire world was laughing at the strutting pop-in-jay in his fighter pilot's pressure suit posturing under "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED."

World-wide respect for George W. Bush. give me a break. The man was and is considered a joke around the world.

AL QAEDA -- Based in Afghanistan was responsible for repeated attacks on U.S. and Western World targets -- the Nairobi embassy, the U.S.S. Cole, London and Madrid Subways, Southeast Asian hotels and nightclubs. The list extends out to hundreds of attacks and well in excess of 10,000 fatalities.

AL QAEDA IN AFGHANISTAN -- Not Sadaam. While Sadaam was in power, with an almost totally secular dictatorship where his sons publicly partied with bikinied and micro-mini skirted pneumatic young women in total defiance of Al Qaeda's super conservative religious doctrine -- AL QAEDA'S religious extemists were his biggest enemies. He wanted them destroyed.

DubYah twisted 9/11 to an excuse to invade Iraq, seeking vengeance for the reported plot to kill Poppa Bush in Saudi Arabia, where he was visiting his long-term CLOSE PERSONAL FRIENDS, know as the Saudi Royal Family -- AND Osama Bin Laden's father.

OLD FRIENDS of George Herbert Walker Bush.

Their security people reported detecting and ending a planned attack against Poppa Bush during his visit.

DubYah repeatedly, before and after winning the 2000 "hanging chad" election, openly stated his determination "..to get Sadaam" for trying to kill "his daddy."

Because of his personal vendetta, thousands of Americans have died in Iraq. Hundreds of Billions of our tax dollars have been poured into the sands of Iraq -- and into the pockets of Bush/Cheney cronies, such and others.

During a time of crude oil surplus, unfettered commodities market "Futures" manipulation drove gasoline prices through the roof.

Many areas had gas prices above $5.00 per gallon, some higher than $5.50, with diesel prices in excess of $6.00 -- during a time of surplus supplies.

While Enron was committing MAJOR FRAUD, Enron executives held unrestricted VIP credentials to the White House and all executive offices.

Have any of you noticed that DubYah and Shotgun Cheney are from the Oil Patch?

DubYah from the Midland/Odessa Permian Basin in West Texas. Cheney from the Wyoming oil fields -- and just before returning to Washington, D.C. -- CEO of Halliburton and KBR. What a coincidence.

KBR -- guilty of more than $100-Million in fraudulent billings under their No-Bid Contracts, and responsible for shoddy construction of buildings, where more than three-dozen Americans have been electrocuted because of $2.00 per day third world workers.

You and I have been privileged to pay incompetent third world "shade tree electricians" to kill U.S. service people and civilian employees, imported to Iraq by KBR.

The record is clear that Halliburton and KBR profiteered immensely from NO-BID contracts for Hurricane Katrina recovery.

Shotgun Cheney was Chief Executive Officer for those two companies.

The Bush Family is heavily invested in the oil industry. That was George H.W. Bush's job after WWII. He drove to Midland to serve as the conduit for Eastern money financing oil exploration.

DubYah the Drunk was a common sight and experience for the people of those small cities.

George W. Bush was a falling down drunk for most of his life in West Texas, Austin, at Yale, at the family summer mansion in Maine and as Political President of the Texas Rangers MLB team at Arlington.

Oh yes, don't forget -- DubYah was Rangers President while campaigning to get the taxpayers of Arlington to build their new stadium with tax dollars. Under the deal, the Rangers paid low rent for ten years, then those nice Arlington taxpayers gave them the stadium.

Just a slight case of public welfare for millionaires.

DubYah went into the Rangers with $600,000 he got from illegal insider trading of his Harkins Petroleum stock -- and sold the same stock for $15-MILLION, thanks to the club getting a nice, new stadium for free, at taxpayers' expense.

WOW!!! That's a lot of self-bestowed respect, or chutzpah or solid brass.

What is it you don't understand?

You have been SKINNED ALIVE twice within 25 years by the Bush family. With all your hide gone, what do you think they'll go after next?

They clearly have no respect for your brains, so they'll have to settle for organ donations.

Every nonsensical lie about Obama's criminal actions, without basis and no listing of any criminal conduct is your stock in trade.

Remember the Nixon White House staff prison choir?

    Remember Scooter Libby?

Remember G.Gordon Libby, John Mitchell, et al?

    Remember Spiro Agnew?

These were not fantasy political pipedreams.

These were FEDERAL FELONIES, committed by the closest associates of GOP presidents.

I seriously think Mrs. Smith is joking, guys.. She has to be. I understand how Carl feels because some of her statements are psychotic, so I'm going to just take it that she's a reeeeally good jokester.. Hahaha Mrs. Smith.

And by the way, that was not a "comeback", it was a reaction to what you said, which was just as void of debatable information as my observation. Is there any reason for me to repeat any of the recent historical facts (many already covered time and time again by others on here like Hank, Guillermo, and Carl) that you fail to acknowledge?

How do you feel about the tea party charging it's own "grassroots" movement members over $500.00 a ticket so they can pay Palin $100,000 to speak? How do you feel about that? I need a good chuckle. Do you fail to acknowldge the irony in this as well?

I am sorry but you and your ilk are like entertainment to me. Keep it up yall this is good stuff!

MrsSmith, George Washington was a great political leader but as a military man he was subpar. He didn't lead an army to victory. In the French-Indian War he was stripped of his command because he led an assault on a French camp and his troops were slaughtered. He ended up quitting the military.

When he next shows up he is charged with protecting New York. He was told that if he stayed on Long Island that would keep the British at bay. Instead he went ashore and was promptly pushed out of New York, losing in the process, America's most important port after Boston was taken.

For the rest of the war he was chased throughout the middle colonies. Even at the end of the war, if it hadn't been for the French blockading the shore, Washington would have lost that battle as well.

You keep bringing up the oldies MrsSmith and love you for that. ACORN was cleared of all charges, just because FOX NEWS and others like you refuse to except that doesn't make it untrue. Wars end huh? If I remember correctly Bush started two wars during his presidency and neither have ended yet.

Also, and I love this, what lies did anyone tell about Bush? Can you tell me?

Carl, while I enjoy your enthusiasm please keep it respectful. Don't allow yourself to go down to the level of the rest of these people. All they know are childish insults and pulling stats out of their rear end. I've given up trying to get them to be civil on this blog, they don't want to, and even though many have them have broken the Terms of Service many times over nothing is being done. So I will ask you to stay on the higher level. Hit them with the real facts not the FOX News "facts". If you notice someone lying call them on it but don't stoop to their level of childishness.

For the rest of you if that is insulting then good it was meant to be but as long as you continue to act like children in response to what someone who disagrees with you says I have nothing for you.

  • To The Loyal Opposition,

Don't look now, but those LIBERALS in D.C. are screaming frantically because Pres. Obama is asking Congress to freeze all spending except DEFENSE and congressionally-mandated entitlements.

Since the Libs who you believe "threaten America" have less than 20% of the votes in both houses --

Guess who will have to decide if they want to maintain their PERFECT RECORD for opposition, or support this Obama proposal.

The several economic task forces have compiled their recommendations for economic recovery, jobs creation and stabilizing the recovery.

Amazing that this reckless president has again organized multiple task forces of recognized professionals to present fully supported proposals.

He did not rush in with a hundred programs without researching facts and probable benefits.

Fortunately, many, many Republican business and professional people have contributed to these studies and are well represented in proposals.

    How unfair,

    He has a sensible program for relocating most of the GitMo detainees and starting trials from the already built Illinois prison;

    He has a fully supported stategy for Afghanistan/Pakistan, with definite goals and time lines;

    The banks and GM are paying off their loans. GM is unloading SAAB to the Dutch;

    Every economic observor is declaring the economy is recovering -- slowly but surely;

    The GREEN JOBS initiatives are beginning to show results;

With his prodding, both houses of Congress are beginning to consider compromises which will allow the key features of the Health Reform Effort to become law. Basically, all the important features Candidate Obama outlined more than two years ago and in his speech before both houses.

Then he does the unfairest thing of all and asks the Senate to delay action on Health Care until Sen.-Elect Brown is seated.

And today, he follows that with FREEZING expenses for at least three years.

Does his unfairness know no limits.

Next thing he will be asking the Liberal Media to give Short Term Ex-Governor Palin a cushy job with big money and no real responsibilities.

Of course, that would never make Glenn Beck angry and start him attacking the retired governor.

Since she will be on that Liberal TV, maybe she can get her grandchild's daddy, Levi the Hunk, to appear with his PLAYGIRL centerfold pose on her show. You know, kind of spice things up a little.

    How unfair can life be?

  • Hey you weiighty conservaative brains,

Check the Congressional Record for the Director of the Congressional Budget Office answers to finance committee questions.

    VERY BRIEFLY:

"If President Clinton's fiscal program had been followed, by 2010 the United States' federal debt would be gone."

"The Gross U.S. Federal Debt as of Jan. 1, 2009 was more than $11-Billion. The Gross U.S. Federal Debt as of Jan. 1, 2010 was $12-Billion."

Even with the Afghanistan build up, Cash for Clunkers, New Home Buyers bonuses, that liberal, Obama, increased debt about 50% less than George Bush's annual average.

It is in the Congressional Record folks.

The sworn testimony of the Budget Office Director, appointed during Bush's years.

Now, lets hear more B.S. about Obama's spending the nation into oblivion!!

  • Jose,

Good to know you understand the difference between Billion and Trillion. Didn'ty even have to remove your shoes for that one.

Yep, rushing to catch a plane -- I goofed on the "B" and "TR"--

It was all TRILLIONS and is the GROSS NATIONAL DEBT.

Very glad you checked the deficit spending --

that is one year's deficit spending -- not DEBT.

Tragically, by the time this mess can be turned around fully --

The GROSS NATIONAL DEBT will probably exceed $15-TRILLION.

Re-instituting the full W.J. Clinton fiscal program, leaving Iraq and Afghanistan totally in 2011, while trying to rebuild 10-Million lost jobs --

Not much chance for a balanced federal budget before 2014 - 2016, which means with maximum discipline, the U.S. could be debt free in my son's lifetimes -- POSSIBLE, but not likely.

WHY -- because the GOP will get another genius into the White House to reverse sound fiscal policy once more and drive the debt higher, while finding a couple more wars to fatten their cronies' pockets.

-- Posted by HerndonHank on Mon, Feb 1, 2010, at 6:31 PM
  • Aw shucks Jose,

As a born and bred Southern Republican, actively working in GOP campaigns during the years when a Republican was almost as rare in the south as true wild African or Indian elephants.......I find your "hatred for anything Republican" qualifies for poolhall humor.

Jose, how many election campaigns have seen you actively working 20-40 hours weekly for a GOP candidate in a solidly Democratic controlled state?

Having started delivering GOP campaign literature horseback before my 14th birthday, and walking town precincts before turning 18 -- Dadburn I must have hated them Republicans.

Part of the stimulus has included major contracts to clean up nuclear waste sites, which have been allowed to "season" for 20-40 years. Seriously overdue and creating thousands of jobs now serves two purposes.

Repairing streets and roads has been a major ingredient. Just part of the national infrastructure ignored with the two wars DubYah tried to fight for so long.

If you had bothered to read and digest my earlier post, I predict a gross federal debt of at least $15-Trillion before this Bush/Cheney/Banks depression is cleared up.

Did you actually think Congress would accept a budget without greatly increased jobs and infrastructure programs?

Guarantee -- every Republican congressman and senator has his needs list and will fight for it.

The Democrats have eight years of seeing most of such appropriations going to Republican states, so don't expect them to take the short straw again.

The net loss in Gross National Product and the Gross National Economy with each passing year exceeds the total deficit by several Trillion.

With this national economy fully functioning, creating two-million new jobs annually, more than $2-Trillion annually in new federal income will be generated.

Calculate in another $3-Trillion in state and local government income generated with a full economy and most economists will accept the trade off of at least two-to-one governmental tax and other income gains.

Had this wild-spending Democrat allowed the economy to continue falling at the rate of 700,000 jobs lost monthly -- we would now have more than 25-million unemployed at the best.

Subtract ALL the jobs in major banks and financial houses; Subtract ALL the U.S. Auto Industry jobs -- both Auto Makers and parts suppliers, truckers, dealers, and everyone who depends upon those direct and indirect auto workers to bring their paychecks shopping.. and 25-million unemployed might be a mite low estimate.

    Try 40-Million out of work.

Jose, this old country boy will survive. I have land in a climate where a rough greenhouse (old fashioned hotbed or cold frame units included) operation would allow me to grow root and vegetable crops year round. There are enough deer, squirrels, fish, game birds and rabbits to provide protein.

Having been in charge of the one-acre family garden, melon and sweet corn patch by the time I was seven and eight years old -- This country boy would survive.

I could go into the woods and cut wood for cooking and heating. Wouldn't like it, but could do it.

Our reality -- GET OUT of this DEPRESSION by 2013, or none of us will ever seen good times again.

In case you haven't checked the numbers --

CHINA is producing more than twice as many wind generators and solar generating systems as the U.S. Next year, their renewable energy equipment and systems production may exceed the U.S. by four times.

We want our share of the global market for solar and wind generation.

In Ohio with a high-end solar generation manufacturer within less than 100 miles, Oberlin College went overseas for the equipment and systems to totally retrofit the largest GREEN building on any U.S. college campus.

We still have IRS codes in place from the Reagan years which reward U.S. companies for closing U.S. plants, firing U.S. workers, and hiring foreign workers at $2.00 per day or less to work in new I.R.S. subsidized plants overseas.

This Democratic president insists that tax break for replacing U.S. plants and workers with overseas operations, must be erased.

Anti runaway business, yep. Pro U.S., yep.
