"Fighting the Good Fight?"Posted Sunday, December 20, 2009, at 2:07 PM
Today John McCain said that he and fellow Republican Senators were going to "...fight the good fight. We will fight until the last vote." (source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091220/ap_o... I do have a few questions for Senator McCain, but first I would like to state that I wish politicians on both the left and right would stop using the term fight to talk about bill passage. There are no real fights going on. This is not Europe after all.
My first question to Senator McCain is when did fighting the good fight involve lying to Americans about what appears in bills, like the death panels?
Second, when did fighting the good fight involve loggjamming debate in an attempt to slow the government down to a crawl?
Third, when did fighting the good fight involve trying really hard to not even allowing an up and down vote?
If you ask me, if I have to use an analogy, this sounds more like trench fighting more than it does fighting good fights.
Republicans in the Congress have not fought the good fight, they have been underhanded from the beginning of this process absolutely lying about what is in any bill, voting against their own bills, and generally just putting a wrench in the American government system.
They have stated before that they believe the Democratic Party will be judged in 2010 by the Health Care Reform. That may very well be true, but as much as Republicans have dragged their feet through this process they may very well be judged as well and maybe just as harshly.
This will be my last blog (planned anyways) before the end of the year, so wish everyone Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years.
Love the ones you're with, be with the ones you love.
Thought I would mention that the filibuster the conservatives put on the omni bill to send money to the military was the 62nd filibuster for this Congress. That is more filibuster's than any other Congress on record and we still have one more year to go. If that isn't obstructionism I don't know what is.
