Veteran's DayPosted Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 6:03 PM
Sorry for the lateness of this blog but I was working most of the day and then watched my son march in the Veteran's Day Parade downtown.
Veteran's Day is a day that is far too overlooked. It doesn't get the attention that it truly deserves.
All three of my grandfathers (on my dads side I have a paternal grandfather and a step grandfather) served in World War 2, all three were Navy men. Papa (my moms dad) was on a boat that was successfully attacked by a kamikaze plane.
My dad was called up for the draft during the Vietnam War but because of a rash behind his knee that neither he or doctors could explain he was sent home.
My older brother was in the Navy for a short time. He was training to become a Navy Seal. When that didn't pan out he switched to the Marines and served as a nurse in a M.A.S.H unit in Okinawa before returning to the states. Unfortunately on November 25, 2001 he passed away.
I have always been an ardent supporter of our troops. They do something that I would never imagine myself doing. They put their lives on the line to protect our freedom's and not just ours but others freedoms around the world.
They deserve our utmost respect for everything they do. They spend months upon months of active service away from their families.
Celebrating not only our veterans but our active servicemen and women should last all year and not just one day.
Thank you to all of our servicemen and women for all you do.
