CURTIS, Neb. — Curtis Volunteer Fire Department invites the public to celebrate 100 years of service to their community.
An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, at the firehouse, 106 Custer Ave. in Curtis. Enjoy cake and ice cream, take a tour of the firehouse, and take part in sharing stories and history about the department.
The public is invited to a spaghetti feed fundraiser for Joe Weibert on Wednesday, August 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Curtis Community Center, 201 Garlick Ave. in Curtis.
It is a free-will donation feed, and all proceeds will go to support Weibert. The meal will include green beans, garlic bread and a dessert with the spaghetti.
Weibert was recently in a vehicle accident that resulted in significant injury to his knee and ankle. Due to the severity of his injuries, he will be unable to return to work for significant amount of time. Weibert has dedicated many hours to the Medicine Valley Youth Wrestling Club and coaching T-ball.
The Frontier County Baseball Association Home Run Derby takes place on Saturday, July 25, with a 5p p.m. start.
Entry is $20 for 10 outs, with unlimited buy-ins. Winner takes half of the purse.
Categories are age eight and under, ages nine and 10, ages 11 and 12, ages 13 and 14 and ages 15 and over. All pitches come from the pitching machine.
This all happens at Mill Park 505 West Second Street in Curtis.
