It's GO time in MFL: eight teams are getting ready to roll

McCOOK, Neb. — Their No. 1 fans also known as parents were watching from lawn chairs, seated on hillsides or even in vehicle front seats Thursday night.
Without a doubt, dozens of McCook Football League players have ignited football in the hometown air once again even though July is not even half-complete.
McCook Bison coach/MFL director Joe Vetrovsky was clearly pleased about the participation again as he offered some remarks:

“The McCook Football League is off to another exciting season, and we are thrilled with the outstanding participation from our young athletes. This year, the league features four teams in the 5th/6th grade division and four teams in the 7th/8th grade division.
Players have had a great first week of practice, bringing enthusiasm, energy, and a strong desire to improve each day.
We are incredibly grateful to Community Hospital Sports Medicine for their generous sponsorship, which helps make the league possible. We also want to thank our dedicated volunteer coaches and support staff for investing their time and effort into creating a positive experience for every player.
The 2026 season is set to kick off on Thursday and we encourage everyone to come out and support these young athletes.
Admission is free, and concessions will be available throughout the games.
Thank you to everyone who continues to make McCook Football League such a special tradition.”
The complete season schedule can be seen above with most games set to be featured with Gazette photos and recaps from these various contests.
McCook Football League teams feature youths from not only McCook but other area communities. Current and former Bison players handle the coaching duties for games taking place at Weiland Field.
