Sharon Ellen Welsh
July 7, 1944 - June 26, 2026
CULBERTSON, Neb. — Sharon Ellen Welsh, 81, of Culbertson, passed away June 26, 2026, at Accura Health Care in North Platte, Nebraska.
Sharon was born July 7, 1944, in Nebraska, and would come to bless Gerald Hubert and Ardath (Workman) Packard at the age of 8. She grew up in the sandhills and graduated from Arthur High School, where she was active in 4-H and as a cheerleader.
On Sept. 5, 1965, Sharon married William “Willie” Henry Welsh, and the union was blessed with two sons, Michael and Paul. The couple lived in Ogallala, where Sharon worked at TRW for many years and turned her hand to all kinds of odds and ends before settling into the work she loved most, staying home with her kids. The family would eventually move to Culbertson in 1967.
Earlier in life, Sharon enjoyed arts and crafts. She always kept a garden and enjoyed the outdoors, especially the butterflies and birds. In later years, coloring became a quiet pleasure. Sharon thought the world of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the grandkids spent every summer with her and Willie. Each year brought a special trip together, Alaska, Washington, helicopter rides in South Dakota, the kind of vacations a grandchild remembers for a lifetime.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; her son, Paul; her parents and parents-in-law; her brother, Glen Packard; her sister-in-law, Shirley Packard; and her brothers-in-law, Rex and Don Welsh.
Survivors include her son, Michael Welsh and his wife Susan; grandchildren, Heather (Anthony) Welsh, and Daniel Welsh; great-grandchildren, Noah, Kaydence, and Amber Welsh, and Thaddeus, Gabrielle, and Sebastian Errington; her brother, Gerry Packard (Sondra); her sister-in-law, Jean (Norv) Elmshaeuser of Ogallala; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Sharon’s memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live.
