Rebels' 18-and-under roundup at state fast-pitch tournament
HASTINGS, Neb. —
SENE Pumas 11,
Rebels 18-U 7
McCook peppered the Pumas with 13 hits and more entertainment than any hot-dog eating holiday contest.
Carlie Rupp, Cassidy Rogers, Karagynn Brown and Leighton Anderson devoured pitches while turning them into eight of those 13 hits or two from each Rebel.
Josilin Miller grilled two rib-eyes also known as RBIs to keep the Rebels within strikingrange.
Izzy Messinger and Rupp both enjoyed even more holiday exercise as they both stole multiple sases without being caught.
Anderson served up pitches to the Pumas, who did plate seven runs — five earned — during her 2 2/3 innings in that circle.
Rebels 18-U 12,
Irish 11
McCook’s three-game state win streak almost never started since Irish nearly overcame a 12-3 deficit in it last at-bat on Saturday.
The Rebels captured a first-inning advantage thanks to Miller’s bases-l0aded walk and Brown’s two-RBI base hit.
The Rebels roared ahead 5-1 on Rupp’s second-inning triple, than Brown and Hannah Peterson singled home two more teammates.
Though the Irish jig for this game featured an inside-the-park home run, McCook quickly scored seven more times to lead by nine.
Messinger, Anderson and Ellie Havlicek all brilliantly blasted two-RBI hits.
Havlicek hurled three innings besides her three hits that matched Rupp and Brown for Rebel-leading honors.
The Irish made their final unforgettable comeback but Anderson struck out one last batter to secure this Rebels victory.
Rebels 18-U 7,
Sports Express 1
Leighton Anderson pitched all six innings and her teammates didn’t mind some pain to spark the Rebels go-ahead rally in this third state tournament contest.
Trailing 1-0, Brown singled before Hannah Peterson and Zoe Garcia both took two “fireballs” off body parts to load those bases.
Havlicek soon singled home the tying run and Jaelyn Kuykendall’s bases-loaded, RBI walk put those Rebels ahead to stay.
Rogers’ RBI-single made it 3-1 for more than enough run support considering how Anderson halted any Express comebacks.
The soon-to-be McCook High junior scattered six hits, walked only one and fanned three during her complete-game victory.
Havlicek soon singled home another Rebels run.
Rupp’s single into center plated both Garcia and Peterson to make it 7-1.
Rebels 18-U 7,
Lincoln Rockets 2
The Rockets were really no match for another 13-hit Rebels barrage to help decide this Sunday state elimination game.
Rogers rocked all game, going three-for-three and scoring a clutch run.
Brown totaled two hits, two runs and two RBI while Peterson matched another two hits from Havlicek.
Jayda Wood also walloped a huge RBI-single as the Rebels scored seven conecutive runs following an early Rockets tally.
Havlicek scattered 10 Rockets hits, nine being singles and the lone Lincoln double could not match McCook’s five two-base hits.
Rebels lose finale
The Rebels dropped a 10-2 finale on Sunday which capped their 3-2 state tourney weekend.
Aspen Nally delivered both Rebel RBIs while Brown finished two-for-two at the plate.
Anderson pitched three innings, allowing just two earned runs but nine hits overall. She did not walk or strike out a batter.
