MNB boys mow through Hebron tourney to 4-0 championship

HEBRON, Neb. — McCook National Bank brilliantly mowed through every pitching staff from Beatrice to Hebron to Millard while winning every game of last weekend’s Hebron Seniors baseball tourney.
Coach Konor Rakes’ boys are now 13-6 entering some home contests this week with Kearney today starting at 6 p.m. then an 8 p.m. single game vs. Minden on Wednesday.
Recaps from the MNB tornado that devastated diamonds all weekend:
MNB 10,
Beatrice 0
Wow, Kale Sattler struck out 12 to get the Seniors started right as he allowed just one Beatrice hit through five innings.
His Senior teammates provided more than enough destructive support.
Bryson Gullion was only warming up for the weekend with two hits while Kooper Rakes doubled and drove in two RBI.
Sattler delivered his own early run-plating single, but patience also proved to be quite an MNB virtue.
They drew six walks including Bo Schlegel and Abel Wilson both earning RBI on bases-loaded free passes.
Cole Block got plunked with an inside pitch to score another MNB run.
Asher Wilson also walked twice and Jaime Samaniego swiped two bases.
The MNB defense was ready to back strike-throwing Sattler, never committing an error and Asher Wilson handled 12 chances cleanly.
MNB 19,
Millard 4
Neither Millard United Varsity Red’s pitchers or defense had any answers on how to stop MNB’s 19-run, 19-hit barrage in game two.
Millard starter Jared Jennings was tagged for 15 of those hits leading to 13 runs — all earned.
Gullion blasted four hits in five at bats: single, double, single and single.
Sattler and Cole Davidson both doubled to drive home a pair of teammates in the six-run MNB third frame.
Davidson, Asher Wilson, Samaniego and Gullion each totaled three RBI for this no-contest.
Kooper Rakes ripped multiple hits as did Abel Wilson. Rake also pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one and walking only one.
MNB 13,
Blue Raiders 0
The beautiful carnage continued into Sunday where Kooper Rakes clobbered a home run over that center-field fence.
Asher Wilson tripled to s ore two more runs while little bro Abel belted another two-RBI single.
Schlegel and Samaniego were among other MNB seniors who rounded the bases after smashing hits.
MNB 10,
Hebron 2
The tourney hosts actually led 1-0 until Schlegel’s game-tying, RBI-double.
McCook never really looked back especially with Davidson driving in four big runs.
He totaled two hits while Asher Wilson and Samaniego swiped multiple bases.
Gullion pitched five innings to earn this win, allowing just one earned run on five hits.
He did through walking five Hebron batters but also struck out six.
Block added one shutout inning of relief. The Seniors also did not commit a defensive error as Asher Wilson handled seven defensive chances.
