McCOOK, Neb. — Alyce Mae (Carmichael) Stritt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Kinship Point in McCook. She was a beautiful 104 years old.

She was born on March 27, 1922 to William Joseph and Bessie L. (Hess) Carmichael at home on the farm originally homesteaded by her grandparents, James and Mary Ann (Franklin) Carmichael in Red Willow County.

Alyce Mae graduated from Red Willow High School, went on to earn her teaching certificate at McCook Junior College and returned to teach at the one-room schoolhouse she attended as a child. She was united in marriage to Clarence Martin Stritt on May 23, 1946 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Indianola, Neb. To this union eight children were born. She and Clarence together raised their family and operated the local Gambles store. The family continued to serve Indianola and the surrounding area when in 1963 they opened the Deffer Carpenter Stritt Funeral Home and continued to serve until 2004 when Alyce Mae decided it was time to retire. She was 82 years of age.

Alyce Mae lived a remarkable life that spanned over a century, bearing witness to incredible changes in the world. Having grown up during The Great Depression, she learned the values of hard work, resilience, and family, which became hallmarks of her long life. Alyce Mae was known for her deep faith. She was a member of St. Catherine’s in Indianola and active member of the Altar Society serving in several leadership roles. After moving to McCook, she was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and participated with St. Teresa’s Circle. She was a member of the Indianola American Legion Auxiliary and was very proud of her 50 years of service recognition. She loved a good card game and she was an avid sports fan following all the kids’ games and activities she could as well as watching the Huskers on TV. Above all,

Alyce Mae’s greatest joy in life was her family. She knew how to pour love on others through regular Sunday dinners, summer vacations, family Christmases, and extended family reunions with the Stritt and Carmichael families. There are memories for a lifetime from time simply shared together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 36 years; brothers, Hugh, Jim (Marie), Vern (Mary), and Dell (Jean) Carmichael; sisters, Lela (Julius) Liess and Wilma (Louis) Liess; her in-laws, Delbert (Grace) Stritt, Leonard Stritt, Herman (MaryAnn) Stritt, Viola (George) Millard, Elmer (Helen) Stritt, Louise (Fran) Broz, Pauline (Hank) Fossen, Margaret (Frankie) Haag, and Velda Carmichael; her son, Tom Stritt; sons-in-law, Dave Felseth and Ron Blume; daughter-in-law, Doris (Stewart) Stritt; and two grandsons, Greg Blackman and Kevin Blackman.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be remembered with great love by her children, Carol Blackman, Doris Blume, Marilyn (Jerry) Slater, Nancy Stewart, Denis Stritt, Kathleen (Jeff) Osterman, and Ron (Connie) Stritt; daughter-in-law. Nanci (Davidson) Stritt; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren (two more due this summer); numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were all touched by her generous and loving spirit. Her memory will be a blessing to all.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, June 10, 2026 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Indianola.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, June 11, 2026 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Indianola.

Burial in the St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Indianola will follow services.
