Victor Pochop

ATWOOD, Kan. — Victor F. Pochop, 69, of Atwood, Kan., a dedicated husband, farmer, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, with his wife, Eva, by his side.
Born on November 21, 1956, in McCook, Neb., to Victor J. and Lucy (Holub) Pochop. Victor grew up on a farm north of Beardsley, Kan., with his sister, Valyne. Victor was a 1975 graduate of Atwood High School who then went on to attend Northwest Tech College in Goodland, Kan. Upon graduation, he returned home where he spent his life farming his family’s homestead.
In 2004, Victor married the love of his life, Eva Schmid, at Sacred Heart Church in Atwood. They built a life together on the farm. Victor loved people. He loved a good joke and a “little bit of foolishness”. In his spare time, Victor enjoyed woodworking and was a master craftsman. He built many beautiful pieces for others to cherish and enjoy. For years he would hand craft doll cradles and toys, only to donate them to Kansas Right to Life for auction. Victor also made several items for Sacred Heart Church.
Victor served on numerous committees. He was a member of FCSLA (formerly Catholic Workmen), Rawlins County Fair Board, Rawlins County Conservation Board and the Beardsley Equity Coop.
Victor was preceded in death by his father, Victor J. Pochop, his brother-in-law, Alan Stolfus, and nephews, Steven Schmid and Scot Schmid. He is survived by his wife, Eva; his mother, Lucy Pochop; his sister, Valyne Pochop; brothers-in-law, Mike (Jenni) Schmid and Pat (Sherry) Schmid; sister-in-law Susie (Taryl) Jasper; nieces, Emily (Lucas) Gorentz, Julia Stolfus, Stephanie Schmid, Kristy (Andrea) Malcolm, Eryn Jasper, and Dayna Jasper; nephews, Adam Stolfus, Shane Schmid, Matt Schmid, and Conor Jasper; a great nephew Dylan Schmid and a Goddaughter, Allison Rippe.
A service to honor and remember Victor’s life will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with visitation starting at 9 a.m. and Rosary at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made toward Masses, Capuchin Province of MidAmerica, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and mailed in care of Baalmann Mortuary, P.O.
