On February 18, 1977, Doris married Denis Stritt at the Methodist Church in Indianola. Together, they built a loving family and raised two daughters, Jenni Lynn and Danielle Lynn. Her love for children extended from her immediate family, Doris ran an in-home daycare for many years and built many connections with the kiddos and their parents. Doris also dedicated many years to Southwest Public School, contributing her time and care in both the kitchen and daycare programs.
Family was at the core of Doris’s life. Known for her patience, kindness, thoughtfulness, and caring nature, she had a remarkable ability to understand those she loved. Always the devoted caregiver, Doris was ready to drop everything to offer support, listen, and help find solutions whenever needed. Her words, “Don’t talk to strangers” will continue to be passed down the generations; a tribute to her loving and protective guidance. She cherished her roles as a mother and grandmother, faithfully attending every game, track meet, music program, field day, quiz bowl, and other events to show her unwavering support.
Doris created countless treasured memories with her grandchildren through activities like ranger rides, playing kitchen, and sleepovers, imparting to them the true meaning of unconditional and selfless love. Her talents extended to the kitchen, where she was known for her delicious meals, especially her chicken noodles, biscuits with gravy, and famous snack bags. Doris also found joy in her gardens, the beauty of flowers, a good thunderstorm, and the song of windchimes in the breeze. Doris and Denis spent many happy hours together whether camping or making their “occasional” visits to the casino.
Surrounded by her family, Doris Lynn Stritt passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 67.
