Bison sending seven to state: four boys, two girls, one add
ALLIANCE, Neb. McCooks final event of the B-6 district meet was a true grand finale on Tuesday when its boys 1600-meter relay earned Class B state qualification.
We had a very nice surprise at the end of the day with the 4x100 meter relay. A team composed of Mile Pollmann, Blake Willis, Krayten Ureste and Oliver Corbett, Bison coach Tom Sughroue said. This group had a previous seasons best mark of 45.05, yesterday they ran a time of 43.46. That is a dramatic improvement! It made for a very exciting end of our day.
Willis, a sophomore, also triple jumped to his all-time best 423 3/4 for second place.
Blake Willis qualified in the triple jump. He made us sweat a little however! Sughroue explained. Fouling his first two jumps in the prelims. They were big jumps but Blake was just over the line for legal jumps.
McCook advances to state in both events on Wednesday and Thursday.
All Bison results from the B-6 track and field district meet Tuesday. A schedule of state events for the McCook Bison and other area state qualifiers will appear early next week and an on mccookgazette.com.
