Bison boys compete for state track and field trip today
ALLIANCE, Neb. — McCook’s track and field boys are aiming to unleash their best performances all season in today’s B-6 district meet at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bison have already made a nice long trip into Alliance which ends several seasons of visiting Ogallala to earn Class B state spots.
Ogallala became Class C this school year, so the Bison are joining Panhandle schools Alliance, Scottsbluff, Gering and Sidney along with SWC rivals like Cozad, Broken Bow and Gothenburg.
Top placers advance into Class B state at Omaha Burke Stadium starting Wednesday, May 20.
The Bison face a B-6 boys field which includes Class B’s fastest 100-meter sprinter: Sidney senior Lance Holly as his 10.56 time leads ‘B’, according to athletic.net rankings.
Gothenburg’s Bryson Neel leads the Class B 800-meter season race at 1:53.3.
Cozad senior Chayden Hoffmaster has unleashed Class B’s farthest long jump of 24’ at rival Gothenburg’s Dutch Zorn Invite on April 16.
Several other B-6 athletes and relays are among the top two or three in ‘B’.
McCook’s best ranked athlete is sophomore triple jumper Blake Willis.
Willis cleared 43’ 1/4” during the McCook JV Invite on April 27 to hold No. 3 among all B-6 competitors today.
Hoffmaster has cleared 44’10 1/2” and Alliance’s Tanner Salcido reached 43’8 1/2”.
Bison freshman teammate Cole Davidson ranks just behind Willis at No. 4 with his triple jump reaching 41’4” at the Dutch Zorn Invite.
Many other Bison will be trying to move up including seniors Ollie Corbett and Miles Pollmann. Both have hit season or career-best times and marks during recent Bison competitions.
