Marion Laverne (Patton) Larmon

LINCOLN, Neb. - Marion Laverne (Patton) Larmon was born Sep. 21, 1921, in Lincoln, Neb. She attended Prescott Elementary, Irving Junior High, and Lincoln High (class of ‘39) and attended the University of Nebraska where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority.

While at the University she met Harold Larmon of McCook Neb. She and Harold were married Oct. 10, 1942, in Washington, DC. Harold served twenty-five months in the Pacific theater during World War II during which time Marion worked as a stenographer for the FBI in San Diego, Calif. When the war ended, they lived in Omaha and Hastings before settling in McCook where they lived for over sixty years.

Marion’s main interests were music and community service. In McCook she was a soprano soloist in the church choir and community chorus; a member of the Matinee Music Club; and served on the school board, Hospital Foundation Board, United Fund, and University of Nebraska Foundation Trustees. A 78-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Marion was a member of Chapter DL Lincoln, and served as president of Nebraska State Chapter in 1986.

In the late 1960’s Marion took up flying and achieved her commercial and glider ratings. She was instrumental in organizing an official stop in McCook for the Powder Puff Derby, a cross-country air race for women pilots. In retirement, Marion continued her service and musical interests by serving on The Landing Retirement Community Resident Advisory Council as chairman and participating in The Landing’s annual Melodrama for four years.

Marion is survived by a daughter Courtney and husband Gary Townsend of McKinney, Tex.; a son Craig and wife Julie Larmon of Denton, Neb.; three grandchildren, Tamala Sigrist and husband Scott of Arlington, Tex., Jill Stutzman and husband Doug of Denton, Neb. and Brian Larmon and wife Brietta of West Chester, Penn.; six great-grandchildren, Katelyn (Sigrist) Loyd and Quentin Sigrist, Ava and Alexandra Larmon, Robert Larmon and Cole Stutzman; niece Marilyn (DeWitt) Hinckley and husband Jonathan of Arcata, Calif.; a great-niece and great-nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents William and LaVerne (Harrison) Patton, brother William Patton (MIA Korean War), sister Elizabeth (Betty/Pat) DeWitt, and Harold Larmon, husband of sixty-five years.

Services Monday, May 11, 2026 at Butherus Maser & Love Funeral Home at 1:00.p.m. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery , McCook, Neb.
