Bison take home three medals along with Lex tourney title

LEXINGTON, Neb. — Nobody could match McCook’s three Top 10 medalists who powered the Bison to a Lexington Invitational team championship on Tuesday.
The Bison trio brilliantly finished within two strokes of each other as senior Trenton Raile shot 80, junior Brody Anthony 81 and Wyatt Benes 82.
Along with Cruz McCarty’s 84, McCook scored a five-stroke victory over Ogallala for this 12-team tournament title.
“Total team effort by the Bison by bringing home 3 medals. It was nice to see the players compete in the breezy weather conditions,” coach Ben Vetrovsky remarked. Trenton, Brody and Wyatt are starting to see some consistency in their swings. Cruz and Asher are really close to breaking into medal contention.”
Junior Asher Wilson added an 88 for the champion Bison at Lakeside Golf Course.
Raile cracked the top five when he matched Ogallala’s Eason Knispel at 80.
Ryan Gilmore took third overall with his 78, but no other Indian placed among the tourney’s top 15.
Anthony earned ninth place overall and Benes finished 14h — one stroke lower than host Lexington’s Micah Sherr in 15th place.
Champion Jackson Neff shot 76 for Lexington’s only other top 15 medalist.
The Minutemen settled for third overall at 334 and Cozad’s 338 took fourth place.
Tourney runner-up Ethan Atchison was the only Haymakers’ only medalist as he shot 78.
The Bison also outgolfed Minden and Northwest — both totaling 341 — while Broken Bow totaled 346, North Platte 348, Class A Kearney 349, Gothenburg 350, Holdrege 361 and Grand Island 364.
The Bison are already aiming for more momentum at today’s Hastings Invitational. Some younger golfers are also playing in the Medicine Valley Invite.
Following McCook’s annual Prom weekend, the golf boys return to action in their annual Ron Coleman Invitational on Tuesday at Heritage Hills.
Opening tee times are set for 9:30 a.m.
