Huskers tie all-time team mark for Big Ten wins, 24-4 overall
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska (24-4, 13-4) welcomed Maryland (11-17, 4-13) to Lincoln on Wednesday evening.
The Huskers tied a school record on the night, taking down the Terrapins 74-61 to pick up their 13th conference victory of the season, matching a school record.
Nebraska also picked up its 24th win, which puts it in second in program history for single-season wins.
The Huskers got the win after initially trading blows with Maryland for most of the night.
But Nebraska pulled away in the final minutes, outscoring the Terrapins 29-13 in the stretch.
The Huskers shot 23-of-53 from the floor, 10-of-29 from beyond the arc and 18-of-24 from the free throw line. Maryland finished 21-of-56, 12-of-36 and 7-of-8, respectively.
Nebraska also outscored the Terrapins off the bench, 24-8.
Braden Frager led the way off the bench, scoring a team-high 21 points after shooting 6-of-13, 3-of-9 and 6-of-6.
He also co-led the team in rebounds, hauling in eight alongside Pryce Sandfort, who scored 16 on the night. Sandfort shot 5-of-13, 3-of-11 and 3-of-3.
Rienk Mast also finished 5-of-13, totaling 13 points, 11 coming in the second half.
Sam Hoiberg put together a near-perfect game, shooting 4-of-4, 1-of-1 and 3-of-4 for 12 points with seven rebounds.
Nebraska travels to Los Angeles, California, for its final two road games of the season, starting with a Saturday afternoon matchup against USC.
Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
USC (18-10) fell to 7-10 in Big Ten play with Tuesday’s 81-62 loss against arch-rival UCLA.
The Trojans have dropped four straight but did return injured starter Chad Baker-Mazara, who helped Auburn reach its second men’s Final Four one year ago.
Nebraska plays at UCLA Tuesday evening.
