How area girls advanced to state wrestling; placed in districts

Southern Valley-Arapahoe’s seven girls took fifth among 30 teams with 78.5 points on Saturday.

Only Broken Bow’s 82 points with fewer girls (six) bested SV-A. West-Point Beemer entered 11 and won the team title, scoring 131 points.

The top SV-A placers as fourth or higher earned spots at next week’s Class B state meet.

145 pounds: Hayley Serfontein (33-1 record) won the championship. Best win: 5-4 semifinal over Alexis Gulsha, St. Paul (42-8 record); won 9-3 final over Z. Jones, Bow (28-5).

235: Elena Lee (16-16) placed third. Best win: 4:43 final pin of Brett Buss, Burwell (16-8).

100: Cali Santifer (19-11) placed fourth. Best win: 10-4 over Claire Christensen, North Central (26-18).

110: Laney Becker (34-7) placed fourth. Best win: 2:34 qualifying pin of Bodee Carruthers, St. Paul (34-17).

Natalie Breinig scored 10 points at 140 while scoring three pins to finish a 25-9 season. Cydnee Carlson finished 16-10 at 170.

Chase County

The Longhorns were only five points behind SVA with 73 while finishing eighth overall.

145 pounds: Hayley Rusher (46-1) won the championship. She pinned three foes with winning records: J. Johnson, St. Mary’s (19-11) in :32; A. Forbes, Plainview-Osmond (22-12) in 1:04; and finalist A. Cline, Franklin (27-5) in 1:19.

125: Paige Owens (36-4) placed second. Best wins: 1:46 pin of P. Fehrniger, NG/SE (34-11) in 1:41; 3:11 pin of B. Sellers, O’Neill (33-19); then lost 3:44 final to Laney Drueke, St. Mary’s (26-3).

130: Avery Cyorbon (23-15) placed fourth. A 2:07 state-clinching pin of 27-8 Makenzi Mosei, Plainview-Osmond.

Donna Valdez Chavira finished 19-17 at 140 and Zoey Kelley won 18 (18-20) at 120. Kelley scored two district pins over A. Rose, Arcadia-Loup City, in 1:11; and 3:22 over 19-8 Isabelle Soden, Raymond Central

Rourghriders sixth among 30 teams

OGALLALA, Neb. — Southwest totaled 76 points with three girls advancing to state.

The Roughriders were just 10 points behind top five Chasdron (86) though Adams Central’s Patriots scored 261 for a runaway championship.

Dundy County-Straatton totaled 11 points and Wauenta-Palisade nine.

100 pounds: Capri Sayer (42-2) won the championship. Her best wins: 3:21 semifinal pin of R. Eggert, Valentine (26-17); and 1:35 finals pin over Meri Werner, Chadron (37-6).

235: Madelyn Tryon (45-3) won the championship. Her best win: 2:00 pin of finals opponent Quinlyn Statz, Adams Central (28-9).

115: Alyssa Koch (39-14) placed third. Following a loss to 43-2 E. Mahnke, Bridgeport; she won 18-4 over C. Raether, Fort Calhoun; and pinned B. Burdick, Valentine, in :24.

Madalynn Benson finished a 21-20 season at 190. She pinned L. Mayer, Wayne, in :28.Rachelle Saier, Morrill (32-15) stopped her state quest with a :57 pin.

Several other Roughriders gained district experience with Adeasha Escobar Salas finishing an 18-win season (18-22) at 145.

145: Kirah Baker (24-8) scored pins over B. Hartman, Hemingford, in 1:41; and Clara Denney, Hershey (19-12) in 3:49.

120: Adeya Hanes (12-15) scored a :23 pin over Leilah Bratcher, Wayne.

Wauneta-Palisade

105: Sarriana Carrizales (18-11 final record) earned a win over 23-11 Jazmynne Hardin of Morrill.

115: Andrea Almanza (18-17) pinned M. DeHart-Harris, Gordon-Rushville with one second left in the first period. Ensley Lawless (15-18) also competed for Wauneta-Palisade.
