Anthony Horinek

Anthony John “Tony” Horinek, age 81, passed away Sunday morning, January 25, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer, in his home, surrounded by his family.

Anthony was born in Colby, Kansas to Anton E Horinek and Henrietta (Kacirek) Horinek.

Anthony graduated from Saint Thomas Moore Prep school in 1964. He then attended Milford Vocational Technical College and studied Electrical Engineering. Anthony graduated and joined the Air Force in January 1966 at Cannon Air Force base. He was an Aerospace Equipment repairman. After basic training, Tony served at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was then transferred to Takhli, Thailand where he worked on the F-111’s before returning stateside.

Anthony married Sharon Kay Johnson on February 15, 1969. Their home was blessed with two children. Anthony Robert and Renee Ann Horinek. Anthony loved his wife, children and granddaughters. He encouraged his children in academics, and extracurricular activities and was proud of their achievements in their Professional Careers.

Anthony enjoyed farming and tending his fields of wheat and alfalfa. His love for animals included his livestock and the family pets. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and Catholic Workmen Branch No. 74 of Atwood. He enjoyed teaching new Mass Servers. He was a member of the American Legion and previously played taps for funerals.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; sister Doretta; and brothers, LeRoy and Ramon.

The family will sadly miss Anthony; their love and prayers accompany his soul back to God. Those who remain to celebrate his life are his loving wife, Shari; son Anthony and wife Jennifer of Metamora, Illinois; daughter Renee and husband Nathen of Ludell; three granddaughters, Gabrielle and husband Dakota Davis of Hays, Adilynn Wright and Hannah Horinek.

The visitation will be from 5- 7:00 pm with Wake Service and Rosary at 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by Father Henry Saw Lone, Thursday January 29, 2026, at 10:00 am in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atwood.
