Longhorns rumble to big win, Eagle still breaks record

OXFORD, Neb. — A 34-10 first half was more than enough to ignite Chase County’s 68-35 conquest of Southern Valley Tuesday night.

The Longhorns (5-7 record) are becoming road warriors after surprising once-beaten Dundy County-Stratton in Benkelman last week.

On Tuesday, they took charge behind the double-double duo of seniors Lukas Fries (17 points/10 rebounds) and Noah Rau (14 points/13 boards).

Senior James Bomba was another Longhorn bombshell with 14 points as Chase County shot 52 percent from two-point distance at 30 for 58.

Meanwhile, five Longhorns went long distance for three-pointers: Bomba, Fries, senior Austin Smith, junior Brandon Chavira and sophomore Zak Anderson.

Anderson added seven points total, Chavira five and sophomore Aaron Cervantes four in a complete Longhorn win.

Chase outscored the host Eagles 17-5, 17-5 through those first two points then poured in 22 third-quarter points for a 56-25 working margin.

Southern Valley senior Isaac Hamilton did hit a milestone Tuesday night.

His first three-pointer sent the new Southern Valley High career mark for made triples at 173.

The Eagles’ record slipped to 4-10 overall.
