BENKELMAN, Neb. — Dundy County-Stratton’s boys literally needed every point for a 59-58 overtime victory over always feisty Hitchcock County Tuesday.

Visiting Hitchcock (6-5 record) broke a 29-29 halftime tie to lead 40-37 into the fourth quarter.

However, DC-S (10-2) rallied behind seniors Ethan Latta (18) and August Shaw (17) with a combined 35 points.

They caught the Falcons at 52 to end regulation then won their overtime period, 7-6.

Latta’s six steals and nine rebounds were other major reasons why the Tigers captured a third consecutive victory. They had suffered two recent defeats include Chase County winning on the DC-S home court last week.

Junior Cooper Shaw netted another nine points while seniors Owen Matthews, Dante Horner and sophomore Breck Horner scored five points apiece.

August Shaw finished a perfect four-for-four at the free-throw stripe.

Latta also sizzled two of his three long-range triples through the home nets.

Dante Horner dished five assists in what could be a preview of RPAC tournament play later this month.

No individual stats were obtained for the Falcons, who returns to its home schedule at Trenton against a tough Alma team Friday night.
